Senior Scientist, Biologics Characterization and Developability

Job Description

The Protein Sciences Department within the Discovery Biologics organization in South San Francisco is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to join the Protein Characterization and Developability team. The team works integrated with other teams within Protein Sciences Department as well as Therapeutic Area discovery project teams and plays a pivotal role in early biologics discovery by engaging in high throughput biophysical screening, molecule optimization and developability assessments to enable selection of the best candidate molecule for further development. The successful candidate is expected to have deep knowledge and experience in protein chemistry and biophysical characterization of biologics using chromatographic methods such as SEC, HIC, RP, electrophoretic methods (CE-SDS, cIEF), light scattering methods (DLS/SLS) and other analytical methods such as nanoDSF, DSC, SINS, etc. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in characterization of biologics in different flavors – monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), bi-/multi-specifics, fusion proteins, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), etc.

The successful candidate will primarily work on the bench and is expected to work independently and collaboratively to plan/design and execute experiments, develop/optimize methods, analyze and collate data and present at group, departmental, and team meetings. S/he is also expected to contribute for a smooth lab operation by actively addressing instrumentation issues, maintaining lab equipment, exploring/evaluating new technologies as well as adhering to laboratory safety practices.

The Senior Scientist will have the opportunity to work with a wide array of scientists and leaders from different departments and functional areas, engage with project teams, use the latest technologies as well as novel approaches, and make significant contributions towards our company biologics discovery pipeline.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's d(with 7 years), Master's (with 4 years) or Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry or related field with relevant experience

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Deep hands-on expertise in analytical characterization of proteins using a wide range of physicochemical characterization technologies.

  • Strong understanding of protein structure, biophysics, and analytical mindset to enable understanding of the relation between physicochemical properties and proteins structure/sequences

  • Previous experience with analytical characterization and developability assessment of biologics  

  • Experience/Interest with high-throughput analytical characterization workflows

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to details

  • Demonstrated work on multiple projects and ability to meet aggressive timelines

  • Documentation of procedures, methods, data, and results in electronic laboratory notebooks

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Analytical characterization of antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), bispecific antibodies, single chain Fvs (scFvs), VHHs and other biologics modalities

  • High throughput biophysical analysis of large number of candidates

  • Discovery project team membership and meaningful contribution to project advancements

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The salary range for this role is

$128,800.00 - $202,700.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
