Job Description:

HPE - Juniper Networks Advanced Services, EMEA

Reporting to the Advanced Services Delivery Manager or Team Leader, this is a highly technical role, providing operational & testing support for Junipers Network Products to a large Service Provider in the Nordics. The Engineer will be required to develop and maintain an expertise on the products deployed within the Customer’s network. This is a full-time position, working as part of a wider Juniper Advanced Services team. Location is flexible, but regular visits to customer sites in Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland) will be required.

Typical activities of the RC are around the following key areas;

  • Providing day to day operational support, troubleshooting network issues

  • Fault finding and taking corrective actions, working closely with Juniper Support and Engineering teams

  • Network device configuration review and optimisation

  • Config/design validation and verification testing

  • Interoperability testing

  • Software Versioning (‘bug scrub’)

  • Implementation support

  • Knowledge Transfer to customer staff

RESPONSIBILITIES

Remote and On-site technical support to the Customer may also require the RC:

  • To participate in design and information gathering workshops to understand the customers existing network design and technical requirements

  • To understand the customers organizational structure and become familiar with the customers network implementation and support processes and procedures; 

  • To carry out testing of new features and functionality required by the customer in a laboratory environment and to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network; 

  • To test new releases and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the live network; 

  • To troubleshoot equipment and network problems and to open and track Juniper TAC cases through to problem resolution; 

  • To produce a written summary report of the status of equipment and network problems on a regular basis to the customer; 

  • To hold technology workshops with the customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and to provide case status updates, including the reasons for any problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried; 

  • To train the customers design, implementation and support personnel to configure and operate Juniper Networks products; 

  • To assist the customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures. The RC may also be expected to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper product portfolio.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate for this role must be able to demonstrate the following credentials:

Detailed technical experience in the testing, installation and operation of IP routers in a Service provider environment. This includes hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers. In-depth knowledge of, and experience with active network components and the protocols surrounding IP Service Provider networks is required (CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE level). A minimum of 10 years experience in networking, with at least 5 years of working in a Service Provider network environment. Candidates will be required to go through a Security Clearance process.

These skills should include:

  • IPv4 and IPv6, IP subnetting and supernetting and hierarchical routing principles.

  • Routing protocol operation (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP)

  • BNG / subscriber management

  • L2 and L3 VPNs and the associated technologies (L2TP, MPLS, etc.)

  • QoS/CoS, Multicast, PTP

  • Understanding of network/router security and common practices.

  • Detailed understanding of Layer 2 protocols and technologies

  • Experience with working with Juniper Networks equipment and JUNOS, in particular
    MX- and PTX-series routers

  • Strong troubleshooting skills are a requirement.

  • Strong Interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a team, with multiple departments within Juniper and with the host company in a responsible and professional fashion.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure.

  • Self starter, team player, personable, enthusiastic, hard working, and enjoy interfacing with customers on a day to day basis.

  • Hands-on configuration experience, and operational knowledge of Juniper Networks Products is a must.

Specifics for this position: Juniper MX-series experience and familiarity with Data Centre technologies is a huge plus. Knowledge of Network Implementation best practices. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Must be fluent in English and possess good written and verbal communication skills. This role involves international travel (e.g. customer site visits, training, internal events).
