The Foreign Exchange (FX) Relationship Manager is responsible for leading strategic client engagement across a diverse portfolio of clients. This role is responsible for sustaining and expanding FX revenue by deepening existing relationships and identifying cross-selling opportunities across the firm’s FX products and services. Operating with autonomy, the Relationship Manager is a key stakeholder in the FX business, focused on client satisfaction, retention, and growth. The role requires advanced market knowledge, strong analytical skills, and a proven ability to deliver results aligned with business objectives

Major Duties:

  • Develop and execute tailored engagement strategies for FX clients.
  • Maintain high-touch relationships through regular communication and strategic reviews to ensure satisfaction and retention.
  • Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities across FX products, including execution platforms, delegated solutions, and bespoke strategies. Collaborate with internal teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Oversee daily FX trading activity, including pricing, risk management, and operational workflows.
  • Resolve trade discrepancies and ensure seamless execution.
  • Promote proprietary FX workflow solutions in collaboration with banking and markets colleagues.
  • Provide platform demonstrations and training as needed.
  • Leverage client intelligence to maintain comprehensive client profiles and interactions Prepare insightful pre- and post-meeting materials that highlight performance metrics, strategic insights.
  • Monitor macroeconomic and microeconomic factors impacting FX markets. Produce market commentary and articulate implications for client portfolios and trading strategies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on global FX products and execution models in client discussions and industry forums.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to team strategy, training, and development initiatives aligned with the firm’s OneNorthern strategy.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across sales, trading, operations, and compliance to ensure cohesive client coverage and service delivery.
  • Participate in regular performance reviews.
  • Maintain high standards of communication, accuracy, and professionalism in all client interactions.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in FX sales, trading, or relationship management.
  • Obtain a NFA Associated Person designation within 90 days of employment.
  • Proven success managing institutional clients such as asset managers, corporates, hedge funds, and sovereign entities.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow revenue through relationship management and product cross-selling.
  • Familiarity with FX execution platforms (e.g., FXConnect, Bloomberg, 360T, FXall ).
  • Strong understanding of FX market dynamics, macroeconomic indicators, and regulatory developments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across departments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or related field required; advanced degree or CFA designation preferred.

Salary Range:

$114,700 - 194,900 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
