Job Description

Ultra Precision Control Systems (PCS) are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creation and maintenance of manufacturing documentation for all new and existing products.
  • Assures product and process quality and control by designing repeatable and reproducible manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in supporting AS9145 (APQP + PPAP) within an AS9100 organisation. Leading ME engagement with the NPI team
  • In depth knowledge of the design, make, prove interface role and Design for Manufacture and Test (DFMAT)
  • Leading NPI transition from Engineering development into operations
  • An understanding of Project management and Supply Chain principles, practices and processes
  • Evaluate existing and new manufacturing processes and products using PFMEA and implement solutions to mitigate potential risks
  • Contribute to bid preparations which would include estimation of labour standards and potentially estimation of some materials, plant and tooling.
  • Ability to define production requirements as part of NPI and provide financial business case justification for selected build and test strategies
  • Actively participate in supplier selection in conjunction with procurement and Design team, ensuring the most cost-effective solution on make / buy is taken
  • Design and manage the manufacturing tooling required to support efficient product assembly in a repeatable and efficient manner
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by planning process workflow, defining space requirements, manufacturing tools, plant and layout
  • Provides manufacturing support to RCCA, FRACAS and MRB’s to contain and reduce defects and improve FPY; includes working with suppliers to reduce non-conformances, feeding back in to Engineering Design Teams where appropriate
  • Review the costs of the manufacture of existing products and formulate action plans for cost effective redesign
  • Support a high performing team and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external suppliers/customer and other members of staff
  • Able to integrate new techniques and tooling technologies, aligned to the NPI process, including automation of current processes.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Good communication skills demonstrated both verbally and in the generation of documentation
  • Self-driven and able to monitor own performance effectively to ensure commitments and deadlines are met
  • Effective planning and organising capabilities
  • Experience in supporting AS9145 within an AS9100 organisation. Leading ME engagement with the NPI team
  • In depth knowledge of the design, make, prove interface role and Design for Manufacture and Test (DFMAT)
  • Thorough understanding of MRP/ERP systems
  • HNC/HND in Engineering subject
  • Qualification in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
