The Data And AI team is a highly focused effort to lead digital-first execution and transformation at Red Hat leveraging data strategically for our customers, partners, and associates.. The engineering team is focused on building and delivering strategic AI mcp servers & agents built on our Data & AI platform, designed to augment human capabilities, accelerate business workflows, and scale operations across the enterprise.

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented engineers building high-impact, scalable, and reliable systems that power our data and AI platforms.
In this role, you’ll combine technical leadership with people management — guiding engineers, setting clear direction, and ensuring successful delivery of complex software initiatives. You’ll collaborate across engineering, product, platform, and operations teams to translate strategic goals into executable plans and deliver measurable business outcomes.
What will you do:
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on designing and delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable software systems.
Define and drive technical direction: Partner with architects and senior engineers to set engineering standards, choose technologies, and ensure alignment with organizational architecture.
Own delivery and execution: Translate product and business goals into actionable engineering plans, manage scope, prioritize effectively, and deliver with predictability and quality.
Foster engineering excellence: Champion best practices in software design, testing, CI/CD, observability, and security.
Cultivate a culture of ownership and innovation: Encourage autonomy, experimentation, and continuous improvement while maintaining accountability and clarity of outcomes.
Manage people and performance: Conduct regular 1:1s, provide actionable feedback, support career growth, and ensure team engagement and well-being.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, SRE, QA, and Security to align roadmaps, manage dependencies, and deliver cohesive, high-quality solutions.
Operational responsibility: Ensure production systems are reliable, secure, and cost-optimized; lead postmortems and implement learnings for continual improvement.
Drive automation and efficiency: Improve developer experience, eliminate toil, and invest in scalable infrastructure and tooling.
Represent the team: Communicate technical achievements, challenges, and priorities to leadership and stakeholders with clarity and context.
Recruit and onboard exceptional engineering talent, ensuring a diverse and inclusive team culture.
Participate in a periodic 24x7 management escalation on-call rotation
Empathetic leader: Listens deeply, supports career development, and creates psychological safety
Technical credibility: Earns respect through deep technical understanding and informed decision-making
Bias for action: Moves initiatives forward decisively while maintaining quality and governance
What will you bring:
Total 12+ years of relevant software engineering experience
At least 5+ years experience managing diverse and distributed software engineering teams
Experience leading AI/ML and Agentic Platform development
Experience leading teams that build data platforms, ML infrastructure, or enterprise-grade SaaS systems is highly desirable
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, Java, or Rust
Hands-on understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD, IaC, and modern observability practices
Experience with agile development methodologies and leading teams through iterative delivery cycles
Excellent communication, prioritization, and stakeholder-management skills — able to balance technical depth with strategic clarity
Experience with Agile methodologies and working in a DevOps culture with continuous integration / continuous deliveries
Ability to lead distributed, remote teams working across multiple time zones
Ability to discuss complex technical issues with SREs, product managers, and less-technical stakeholders including customers and senior leaders
Experience hiring and developing new engineering managers
Optional Skills
Experience managing teams in an open-source or inner-source environment
Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance in enterprise settings
Familiarity with WatsonX Orchestrate or AgentSpace or similar agentic platforms
Understanding of AI/ML model lifecycle management and associated MLOps practices
Experience working in globally distributed teams
