Senior Manager, Policy, Integrity & Compliance

The Senior Manager, Policy, Integrity & Compliance department, which oversees Major League Baseball’s efforts related to compliance programs and assisting with other policy and integrity matters. The role is responsible for advocating on behalf of MLB and its Clubs on a variety of issues before state legislative, executive, and rulemaking bodies, this individual will serve as a key liaison between MLB and state governments across the country. The Senior Manager will advance MLB’s legislative and regulatory priorities, ensuring that the League’s positions are effectively communicated, understood, and represented in state-level policymaking.

Working closely with colleagues across integrity, compliance, security, and business development, the Senior Manager will build relationships with state officials, monitor policy developments affecting professional sports, and ensure MLB’s position is effectively represented before state legislative and regulatory bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, communicate, and explain MLB’s position on legislation, regulations, and other proposals to state lawmakers, regulators, and other government officials
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activity, and identify proposals of strategic, financial, and operational importance to MLB
  • Coordinate with Club government affairs personnel regarding overlapping policy issues
  • Maintain strategic relationships with state and local elected officials, staff, and agencies in various jurisdictions
  • Travel to state capitols and conferences to meet with government officials
  • Testify in state legislative and regulatory hearings in support of MLB and its Clubs
  • Draft written testimony, advocacy pieces, talking points, briefings, and PowerPoint presentations for various audiences
  • Develop subject matter expertise on a range of policy issues that affect professional sports
  • Oversee MLB’s use of contract lobbyists and membership in trade organizations, where applicable
  • Support MLB’s federal lobbying efforts as needed
  • Perform related duties as required

Qualifications & Skills

  • B.A. and a minimum of 3 years of State-level government relations and/or regulatory experience required
  • Strong oral and written communication (including editing) skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners
  • Professional demeanor, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines
  • This position will be based in New York City but require up to 50% travel
  • Experience drafting submissions to governmental bodies is required
  • Experience testifying before governmental bodies is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; advanced knowledge preferred
  • Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with policymakers, regulators, and diverse stakeholders
  • Skilled at translating complex policy issues into clear, actionable recommendations for internal stakeholders and executives
  • Exceptional political judgment and discretion when working with sensitive or high-profile matters
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work across departments and with external partners to advance shared goals
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical abilities to anticipate policy developments and assess potential impacts on MLB operations
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and operates with minimal supervision while maintaining open communication
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and accountability consistent with MLB’s values and compliance standards
  • Excellent presentation and persuasion skills, with the ability to represent MLB effectively in formal settings
  • Passion for baseball and an appreciation for MLB’s role as a steward of the game

Salary Range: $120,000 - $135,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
