Boeing’s Communications and Brand function is seeking a Senior Manager of External Communications to support the company’s defense and space programs, while leading team operations across the broader, enterprise-wide external communications team. Reporting to the director of external communications, the senior manager will serve as the lead media spokesperson for Boeing’s BDS business unit while leading a team of specialists responsible for partnering with program communicators to tell the Boeing defense and space story through traditional media channels, non-traditional influencers and emerging news creators, as well as Boeing-owned social and digital media channels. This role will additionally serve as the primary integrator of team operations across the enterprise-wide external communications team, partnering with the director and fellow managers to develop, implement, own and evolve the tools, processes and day-to-day rigor required of a world class media relations and social media operation.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of media relations, social media, and team operations specialists

  • Manages employees performing activities to plan, research, develop and deliver communication plans and branding strategies

  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with media, customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports

  • Cultivates a team environment of inclusion, transparency and collaboration

  • Leads the development and execution of a strategic communications plans, aligned with business and functional objectives and in support of value-oriented external storytelling and global sales campaigns

  • Collaborates with communications colleagues across Boeing as needed to execute the business’ strategic communications plan

The successful candidate will be responsive to media and business partner queries, a self-starter and be capable to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting tight deadlines. The candidate will work with the team effectively at all levels of the company and work outside of traditional office hours when required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher

  • 10+ years of experience in developing and implementing strategic communications plans

  • 10+ years of experience in a role that requires project management skills

  • 5+ years of experience in providing counsel to senior executives and leaders

  • 5+ years of media relations experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Excellent writing, and editing skills

  • Experience working with communications stakeholders around the globe

  • Capability to work effectively with large cross-functional teams

  • Background in content development and storytelling for social media channels

  • Experience as a spokesperson on behalf of a company or business

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $159,800 - $231,150
