Senior Manager, Corporate Sustainability

We’re seeking an experienced and purpose-driven sustainability professional to advance Challenger’s sustainability strategy, partnering across the organisation to advance our approach to ESG, climate reporting, and community impact. 

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role for someone who enjoys both the strategic and executional aspects of sustainability. The successful candidate will drive projects forward while influencing senior stakeholders and shaping the future sustainability roadmap. 

 

Reporting to the General Manager, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, you will: 

  • Partner with General Manager Corporate Affairs and Sustainability and ESG investment specialists to develop and implement Challenger’s Corporate Sustainability and ESG strategy, bringing relevant data and insights to the table to enable effective decision making at both Board and Leadership Team level.   

  • Co-ordinate a broad range of corporate sustainability initiatives across the Group, including but not limited to the annual Modern Slavery Statement, Sustainability Report, mandatory climate reporting, and sustainability related matters. 

  • Deliver Challenger’s ESG reporting framework, including Group ESG metrics and targets and track progress against those targets, including managing the measurement of GHG emissions across scope 1, 2 and 3.    

  • Lead Challenger’s cross-functional climate risk project, including workstream on preparation for AASB S2 reporting requirements.    

  • Manage responses to external ESG benchmarks and surveys.   

  • Drive the development and implementation of Challenger’s community partnership programs and align these to Challenger’s purpose.  

  • Drive community and employee engagement initiatives, including volunteering, workplace giving, and purpose-aligned partnerships. 

 

What you’ll bring: 

  • Postgraduate qualifications in finance, economics, corporate governance, sustainability, public policy, or a related discipline. 

  • Significant experience in corporate sustainability or ESG related role within financial services.  

  • Deep understanding of sustainability frameworks, governance principles, and the evolving landscape of mandatory climate-related reporting and regulation. 

  • Strong understanding of reporting requirements for listed companies and the corporate regulatory environment. 

  • Experience leading disclosure programs and developing sustainability strategies. 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex sustainability concepts to diverse internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including at senior levels. 

  • A genuine passion for purpose-driven work and delivering measurable impact.
