Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Architecture is a pivotal leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing complex technical solutions within our organization. This position requires at least 7 years of relevant experience and combines deep technical proficiency with mature management and mentorship skills. The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in modern container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes), as well as comprehensive experience with the ELK stack for logging and monitoring. Strong capabilities in Java, Spring, and microservices architecture are essential, along with a proven track record of rapidly integrating emerging technologies. Experience with user interface (UI) development is considered a valuable asset. The Senior Manager will also be expected to lead and develop high-performing teams and manage stakeholder relationships effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and technical strategy for enterprise applications, ensuring that solutions are scalable, robust, and secure.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement container technologies (e.g., Docker) to optimize deployment and operational efficiency.
  • Design, deploy, and manage ELK stack solutions for comprehensive log management, monitoring, and observability.
  • Guide and mentor development teams in leveraging Java, Spring, and microservices to deliver high-quality software products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business and product leaders, to ensure seamless integration of new technologies and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Continuously assess industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending and integrating best-fit solutions to maintain technical excellence.
  • Mentor and develop team members and stakeholders on technical best practices and architectural standards; oversee performance, provide regular feedback, and support career development.
  • Contribute to UI design discussions and provide technical guidance, with hands-on support as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of architectural decisions, designs, and implemented solutions.
  • Manage resource allocation, project timelines, and stakeholder expectations to ensure project success and alignment with business goals.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive team culture; facilitate effective communication and conflict resolution within the team and with external partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in software architecture, technical leadership, or related technical roles.
  • Proven technical expertise in container technologies, particularly Docker and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) for system monitoring and analysis.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Spring framework, and microservices design and implementation.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices.
  • UI development experience (e.g., with React, Angular, or similar frameworks) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and developing technical teams, including performance management, mentoring, and resource planning.
  • Strong documentation, stakeholder management, and project coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) or container orchestration technologies.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools or platforms relevant to enterprise solutions.
  • Experience integrating advanced monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., ELK, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Background in UI/UX development or design thinking methodologies.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development practices.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline or equivalent experience.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$130,295.00 - $260,590.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
