The opportunity
Join the Group Legal team and provide legal advice and guidance to QBE’s Australian and global operations.
Your new role
We have an excellent opportunity in our Group Legal function for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our Group Legal, Technology & Commercial team. You will be responsible for providing independent, quality, commercially focused legal advice to various stakeholders across the QBE Group, including our Group and AusPac technology and indirect procurement teams.
Taking the lead drafting, negotiating and advising on a range of commercial contracts, with a focus on complex IT, data and indirect procurement agreements.
Providing pragmatic, solutions-oriented advice on legal issues and risks relating to technology, data sharing, AI and outsourcing arrangements.
Maintain technical knowledge in technology and digital contracting, including in respect of data and AI, cloud, and emergent technologies to ensure the delivery of efficient, accurate, practical and strategic support to our stakeholders.
Monitoring legal and regulatory changes that could have an impact on our commercial contracts, and ensuring that our templates and negotiated contracts appropriately address legal and regulatory requirements.
Mentoring, supporting and supervising more junior team members with their development and achievement of their goals.
Manage the relationship with AusPac Indirect Procurement, including collaborating on opportunities to explore simplification and improvement of processes.Represent QBE Group Legal on various forums, working groups and internal councils.
Contribute to the management of legal risk to ensure minimum financial impact on QBE results and to protect QBE’s reputation.
Your story so far
We are looking for an experienced legal professional who has a good understanding of current and emerging technology risks and opportunities.
You will bring appositive attitude, thrive in a team environment and have a knack for building relationships and trust. You will also have:
Law Degree; Australian practicing certificate
Extensive experience in commercial law firms or in-house legal teams, specialising in technology transactions, including outsourcing, systems integration, software licenses, and cloud computing contracts, ideally including experience working with regulated insurance or financial services clients, and negotiating multi-jurisdictional arrangements.
Excellent knowledge of commercial, IT, and contract law.
Thrives in demanding time frames, excels in managing competing priorities and pressure.
Ability and willingness to work across a global footprint.
Exceptional negotiation skills with meticulous attention to detail.
