Senior Legal Counsel

IMC’s Legal team supports the firm’s trading and investment activities across the Asia Pacific region, working closely with global colleagues in Amsterdam, Chicago, and Mumbai.

This new role sits within IMC’s Sydney based Legal team and will play a key part in growing IMC’s derivatives and structured products business, supporting a rapidly expanding area of the firm’s operations.

The successful candidate will be a subject-matter expert in OTC derivatives who can combine technical legal expertise with practical, operational insight to help IMC understand the business impact of derivatives across functions.

Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice across the full spectrum of derivatives trading products in the APAC and London markets, including prime brokerage, futures, securities lending, netting and collateral, capital and liquidity requirements, custody and clearing, and reporting.
  • Lead negotiations across all prime brokerage and OTC derivatives documentation including SDA Master Agreements, Credit Support Annexes, and securities lending and repurchase documentation.
  • Advise on regulatory compliance and implementation of key derivative regulatory projects such as transaction reporting, clearing, and margin requirements.
  • Lead in-house derivative projects globally, including transaction reporting, clearing, and margin compliance initiatives, collaborating with Risk, Treasury, and Operations teams.
  • Advise on the practical and operational implications of derivatives regulation and documentation, helping internal teams understand requirements and implementation impacts.

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction with a current Practising Certificate or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Strong background in both private practice and in-house environments, ideally within leading buy-side financial institutions, asset managers, or trading firms.
  • Sound understanding of OTC derivatives, including deep familiarity with ISDA Master Agreements, Securities Lending Documentation, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Able to work independently across time zones coordinating with global offices under tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to navigate and implement complex derivative regulatory projects and translate legal concepts into practical business solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage across all operational teams.
