The Item Cloud Green team leads the evolution of College Board’s digital assessment ecosystem through Hummingbird, our modern platform for AP exam authoring and assembly. About the Opportunity
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer on the Item Cloud Green - Sage team, you’ll apply your technical expertise to simplify, scale, and strengthen the systems that power College Board’s internal authoring platform. You’ll take ownership of meaningful engineering challenges, building and refining cloud-based, full-stack applications that directly support educators and learners. You’ll work in a modern AWS environment, designing reliable infrastructure and smooth deployment pipelines while collaborating closely with thoughtful peers who value clarity, mentorship, and clean code. This is a role for an engineer who enjoys solving hard problems end-to-end, thrives on improving how things work, and is energized by the impact of their work reaching millions of students through College Board’s digital assessment ecosystem.
In this role, you will:
Design & Implementation (60%)
- Design and implement, in collaboration with your team, data-intensive services and components with an emphasis on reusability, scalability, and security
- Maintain the highest engineering standards in collaboration with product owners, stakeholders, and engineering team members in support of our systems and services
- Understand new product capabilities and decompose the implementation into specific functional changes
- Build solutions using the best practices of Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps.
Team Operations & Success (20%)
- Participate in, or lead Agile SCRUM ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Grooming, Daily SCRUM, Demo) and contribute to team deliverables.
- Participate and lead peer reviews of software engineering artifacts
- Assist in the resolution of production issues
- Adhere to development standards and security policies and procedures
- Adopt the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practice of rapidly implementing, testing, and delivering high-quality code.
- Continuously develop the skills required to work as part of a cross-functional Agile team.
Software Solutioning & Design (20%)
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of business processes and operations
- Work closely with engineering leaders to evaluate feature requests, provide level-of-effort estimates and contribute to sprint planning
- Conduct and participates in peer code and design reviews
About you, you have:
- 5+ years of professional production level software development experience
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with TypeScript and JavaScript across the stack (React, Node.js)
- Strong knowledge of the AWS cloud platform and experience working with AWS resources such as Lambda, EC2, SQS, S3, OpenSearch, IAM, CloudWatch, DynamoDB
- Experience provisioning and managing Cloud infrastructure as code using AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) and/or Terraform
- Knowledge of observability best practices
- Experience with NoSQL modeling and database design
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and discover innovative and efficient solutions
- Effective communicator and team lead, able to provide actionable feedback, mentor team members, and participate in interviews to evaluate engineering talent.
- Ability to travel 3-5 times a year to our NYC or Reston, VA office.

About Our Process

- The hiring range for this role is $150,000 – $164,000
