Your Role

We’re looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer to work on one of Hudl’s most innovative new products: next generation, fully-automated sports cameras. These autonomous cameras utilize edge AI to automatically track the action and upload to the cloud, offering our customers seamless access to vital, real-time video and insights.

As a Senior Engineer, your priorities will be to:

  • Collaborate. You’ll work closely with our Hardware, Firmware and Application Software Engineers, as well as our System Architect, to create a reliable, scalable and easily updateable firmware system.
  • Lead technically. You’ll set an example for others in planning, designing and delivering complex projects.
  • Own the problem. You'll work in an autonomous squad that has the freedom and expertise to deliver the best solution.
  • Power our next generation of devices. Your team is responsible for turning early prototypes into fully functioning devices. You’ll get to work on the low-level components powering the full stack of the device.

For this role, we're currently considering candidates who live within a commuting distance of our Netherlands office in Den Bosch. But with our flexible work policy, there aren't any current requirements for the number of days you come to the office.

Must-Haves

  • Solid experience in embedded systems. You have 8+ years experience in building, supporting and extending board support packages for hardware solutions powered by Linux.
  • Development expertise. You have a proven background in programming microcontrollers, preferably with FreeRTOS or similar RTOS environments, as well as a strong background in user-space and BSP-level development, integration and debugging using C/C++.
  • Hardware interface knowledge. You’re familiar with serial communication protocols such as UART, I2C and SPI.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Rust experience. Exposure to this language would be a plus. A large portion of our codebase is in RUST and our strategy is to extend it.
  • Knowledge of wired and wireless communication protocols. You’re familiar with areas such as PCIe, I2C, UART, MIPI (wired) and Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 4G/5G (wireless).
  • Linux Kernel knowledge. If you understand device-tree configuration and kernel driver development, we want to hear about it.
  • An interest in cameras. If you're already familiar with cameras, NVIDIA and batteries, that will give you a head start in this role.

Our Role

  • Champion work-life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time above any required statutory leave, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
  • Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
  • Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
  • Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech you need to do your best work.
  • Support your wellbeing. Depending on location, we offer medical and retirement benefits for employees—but no matter where you’re located, we have resources like our Employee Assistance Program and employee resource groups to support your mental health.

Inclusion at Hudl

Hudl is an equal opportunity employer. Through our actions, behaviors and attitude, we’ll create an environment where everyone, no matter their differences, feels like they belong.

We offer resources to ensure our employees feel safe bringing their authentic selves to work, including employee resource groups and communities. But we recognize there’s ongoing work to be done, which is why we track our efforts and commitments in annual inclusion reports

We also know imposter syndrome is real and the confidence gap can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates. Please don’t hesitate to apply—we’d love to hear from you.
