The Position

As part of the Executive Communications team, the Senior Executive Communicator will serve as a trusted partner and strategic communications expert for Roche’s most senior leaders and be a master storyteller with “editor-in-chief” qualities. In this position, you will closely collaborate with the Communications Business Partner for Diagnostics, his team and the CEO of Diagnostics to strengthen Roche’s Diagnostics narrative and build trust among key stakeholders. Working collaboratively with other members of the Executive Communications and Global Media Relations team as well as Business Partners across Internal Engagement and Digital, the Senior Executive Communicator will serve as a trusted partner and strategic communications expert for the CEO of Roche Diagnostics, including developing speeches, messaging, presentations and integrated communications to amplify the voice of the CEO of Roche Diagnostics and reinforce our mission at Roche. The ideal candidate understands and embodies the strategic value of communications, is experienced in working directly with executive leaders and their teams, and has the ability to craft enterprise-wide narratives that reflect our passion for innovation. 

The Opportunity:

  • Lead the Roche Diagnostics CEO’s executive thought leadership strategy by developing compelling narratives and elevating their voice both internally and externally — aligned with the Leadership Team’s business and cultural priorities, and attuned to our evolving industry.

  • Translate the complexity of the diagnostics business, our portfolio, geopolitics and the competitive landscape into comprehensive and engaging messages.

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Executive Communications team, the Diagnostics CEO’s Chief of Staff office, the Diagnostics Communications Business Partners, and Centers of Excellence to create communications that include executive gatherings, all-employee meetings and messages, digital/video storytelling, and external global events. Collaborate with the Investor Relations team to prepare the Diagnostics CEO for earnings calls, investor presentations, and financial announcements. Alos collaborate with the Communications Business Partner to help shape the financial narrative for the diagnostics business and ensure alignment with the Roche Group.

  • Help position the Diagnostics CEO during times of change and evolving business transformation. This includes leading change communications and ensuring the executive engages with priority stakeholders. And act as a strategic partner to the CEO of Roche Diagnostics and other key executives to plan and prepare effective, thoughtful and engaging internal and external communications that educate, inform, and inspire internal and external audiences.

  • Draft talking points, presentations, scripts and other internally and externally-facing commentary, media interview opportunities, leveraging a strong background in financial and executive communications to position the Diagnostics CEO as a leader in the medical technology industry and to build the company’s reputation.

  • Review and edit essential internal communications prior to dissemination to ensure accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness. Ensure a “corporate voice” permeates messaging to employees and stakeholders.

  • Work independently within guidelines and policies, with minimal guidance. And act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and provide functional guidance.

Experience:

  • Corporate/public affairs experience preferably in the biotech/pharmaceutical/diagnostics sector

  • Exceptional writing, copyediting, and proofreading skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to comfortably engage with all levels of the organisation and influence senior leadership

  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and oversee several projects simultaneously

  • Cross-functional project management, including managing external agencies and budgets

  • Extensive experience in managing issues and crisis communications preferred as well as strong comprehension of effective executive communications, employee engagement, channels and event management preferred

  • Strong executive presence and significant experience effectively working alongside C-suite executives

  • Digital and social media expertise, in particular, leading thought leadership programs on LinkedIn

Furthermore, you have a Bachelor’s degree in PR, English, Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or an advanced degree with 8 years of equivalent work experience. Experience in diagnostics or medical technology is preferred. Bilingual proficiency in German and English (both written and spoken) is essential. The position is based in Rotkreuz, Switzerland.
