Job Description

 

As a Senior Enterprise Architect, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping WGU’s technological landscape. You’ll lead the design and implementation of enterprise-wide solutions that are scalable, resilient, and aligned with our mission to improve student success through innovation. Your work will directly influence how technology supports our strategic goals and empowers teams across the university.

What You'll Do
• Define and enforce architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices across the enterprise
• Lead cross-functional collaboration to translate business needs into scalable, resilient technology solutions
• Document current and future-state architectures aligned with WGU’s strategic objectives
• Provide mentorship and training to team members and stakeholders across the organization
• Evaluate and recommend technologies, tools, and vendors to support enterprise goals
• Conduct performance assessments and capacity planning to optimize systems and mitigate risks
• Ensure architectural compliance with security and regulatory requirements  

What You'll Bring
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 10 years of relevant experience, including 3 years as an Enterprise Architect or 8 years in a technical leadership role
• Proven experience designing service-oriented architectures with a shift-left cybersecurity focus
• Development experience (e.g., Java, C++, Python)
• Expertise in designing high-resiliency solutions focused on performance, fault tolerance, and scalability
• Strong collaboration, design, and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts
• Proficiency with visualization tools like Visio, Lucid, or similar  

Bonus Points if You Have
• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Certifications in cloud technologies or enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman)  

Experience in lieu of education
Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.

Work Location
This is a full-time, in-office position at WGU’s office in Salt Lake City, UT.

Position & Application Details
