Senior EMC Design Engineer

Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and will report to an EMC Lead.

You will:

  • Maintain active presence in design stages of product development; guide teams with EMC design principles, including schematics, PCB layout design, harness, enclosure design
  • Drive design improvements from early prototype through mass production EMC certification
  • Work closely with the cross-functional team to ensure highest quality products and processes are developed and deployed
  • Debug EMC/EMI problems and deep dive into root causes 
  • Review and tailor EMI/EMC requirements to meet specified product performance, creation of test reports, procedures, control plans and guidelines, cost reduction EMC evaluations and second source component evaluation
  • Perform EMC simulations at circuit level, component level and vehicle level for various sub systems using CST, Ansys, Spice or ADS

You have:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in EMC design, testing, and troubleshooting for automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics
  • Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC standards: CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637, FCC Part 15/Part 90, etc
  • Hands-on experience with RF, Analog, high-speed PCB design for EMC, harnessing, grounding, and shielding
  • Proficiency with EMC simulation tools such as CST, HFSS etc..and also proficient in using EMC test equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex EMC issues across multidisciplinary systems

We prefer:

  • Experience with automotive EMC standards (UNECE R10, OEM EMC specs)
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle sensor suites (radar, lidar, cameras) and high-speed digital interfaces (GMSL, SerDes, Ethernet, CAN, LVDS)
  • Knowledge of power distribution systems, DC-DC converters, and HV/LV isolation requirements
  • Experience leading EMC compliance for products from concept to production release
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 10% travel may be required

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
