Auterion

Senior Electronics Engineer (Test Engineering)

Zurich, Switzerland Full Time

As a Senior Electronics / Hardware Engineer, you will play a key role within our Test Engineering team, designing and building test equipment to scale production of our next-generation drone platforms. In this position, you will take ownership of verification and production test equipment, from defining test concepts to designing automated test solutions, jigs and needle-bed adapters that help us improve yield and reliability. You’ll collaborate closely with our software engineers and OEM partners to enhance test coverage and reduce testing time, driving efficiency across our manufacturing process.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, agile environment, offering the opportunity to design creative, practical test solutions from concept through to mass production. This involves balancing the transition from our existing test setups to more scalable and complete solutions in a pragmatic and iterative way for a number of different projects.

Beyond test engineering, you’ll apply your DFM and verification expertise across the broader hardware team by supporting the design of drone-specific PCBs and improving the manufacturability and robustness of our products. Your experience in PCB manufacturing, validation, and testing will be a valuable asset in guiding the team toward more reliable and cost-optimized designs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design and build manufacturing test solutions, including test equipment, jigs, and needle-bed adapters to enable high-volume PCB production (millions of units).
  • Develop electromechanical systems for automated testing of connector interfaces and RF circuits.
  • Support our engineering team by providing the test environment needed to verify their PCBs, e.g. by building test setups for climatic or interference testing.
  • Plan and execute product verification, covering test case definition, execution, analysis, and comprehensive documentation, also for repair guidance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams by offering technical guidance and hands-on support for design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and validation of advanced avionics PCBs and modular systems.
  • Generate technical documentation, including test concepts, CAD drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly or setup instructions and repair manuals.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert on DFM aspects of PCB designs, driving improvements in yield, reliability, and production cost efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing and implementing test equipment for large-scale manufacturing.
  • Practical experience with test automation for connectors and interfaces.
  • Proficiency in ECAD tools (Altium Designer) and mechanical CAD (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Practical experience in building test equipment for design verification and production testing, including cabling, 3D printing, and related prototyping tools.
  • Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills.
