Why LeoLabs?
At LeoLabs, we’re building the living map of activity in space. Through our proprietary global radar network and AI-enabled analytics platform, we collect millions of measurements daily on more than 241,000 objects in low Earth orbit (LEO). Our radar-powered intelligence protects billions in assets, monitors adversarial behavior, and ensures safe operations for commercial and government missions.
We’re not just building technology, we are redefining global security, safety, and transparency in space. As orbital activity accelerates and threats grow more complex, LeoLabs is a trusted partner for Space Domain Awareness, Space Traffic Management, and Satellite Operations for top-tier space operators and allied defense organizations.
If you're looking to work on mission-critical challenges at the forefront of aerospace, national security, and AI, your impact starts here.
We ae seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer who will be based full-time onsite at our Menlo Park, CA headquarters, where you will work closely with our RF, Mechanical and Embedded engineers. At LeoLabs, the Hardware Engineering Team designs, develops, manufactures, and deploys the advanced radar systems that provide persistent orbital intelligence to our customers worldwide. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead advanced PCB layout, schematic design, and electrical integration across LeoLabs’ next-generation radar hardware. You will serve as the team’s eCAD domain expert—owning Altium library management, layout standards, and design governance—while contributing directly to the development of complex, high-performance electronics. Occasional international travel may be required to support hardware deployment and site activities. This role reports directly to the Hardware Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
· Lead PCB layout and collaborate on schematic design for radar subsystems including power, control, timing, and RF boards.
· Own and maintain LeoLabs’ Altium libraries, templates, and eCAD standards across multiple design teams.
· Develop and communicate best practices for layout, stack-up, grounding, and routing of high-speed and high-current designs.
· Collaborate closely with RF, mechanical, and embedded software engineers to ensure robust integration.
· Interface with manufacturers to drive DFM/DFT improvements and resolve production issues.
· Support prototype bring-up, board validation, and troubleshooting through hands-on lab testing.
· Contribute to overall electrical architecture and system-level design reviews.
Basic Qualifications
· BSEE (or equivalent) with 7+ years of experience in PCB design for complex mixed-signal systems.
· Expert proficiency in Altium Designer, including library and database management.
· Proven ability to take designs from schematic through layout, fabrication, and bring-up.
· Strong understanding of PCB manufacturing processes, materials, and tolerances.
· Experience with power distribution, grounding, and EMI/EMC best practices.
· Excellent documentation and version control habits within a collaborative hardware team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
· MSEE or equivalent advanced degree.
· Experience designing multi-board systems or modular electronics for radar, industrial, or defense applications.
· Familiarity with signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) simulation tools.
· Experience with controlled impedance, differential pair routing, and high-speed digital interfaces.
· Working knowledge of embedded processor or FPGA integration.
· Exposure to manufacturing environments and DFM workflows.
Within 1 month, you will:
· Complete our onboarding program designed to get you up to speed on our business, vision, and team.
· Learn about our existing radar designs and product roadmap.
· Gain familiarity with current Altium library structures and design standards.
Within 3 months, you will:
· Lead layout and schematic updates for an active radar board design.
· Define improvements to our eCAD libraries and design workflows.
· Begin collaborating with the RF and mechanical teams on board integration.
Within 6 months, you will:
· Own Altium library and template governance for the Hardware Engineering team.
· Release multiple PCB designs for prototype fabrication and test.
· Improve layout review processes and documentation standards.
Within 12 months, you will:
· Lead electrical design across multiple radar subsystems in active development.
· Transition new designs from prototype into production.
· Mentor junior engineers on layout best practices and design discipline.
