Senior Economic Analyst.

A fixed term opportunity to join an experienced and collaborative Policy Analysis team working on a variety of policy and analytical projects.

Te tūranga – The role

The Senior Analyst is a pivotal role responsible for conducting in-depth analysis and/or research across a range of areas to address complex questions and challenges facing both the New Zealand and global economies and financial markets.

This role is part of the Policy Analysis team that contributes to shaping Reserve Bank policies, supporting decision-making, and advancing our understanding of central banking. This role plays a crucial part in driving excellence in all aspects of monetary policy, ultimately contributing to informed policy formulation, effective communication, and strategic initiatives.

This is a fixed term role through to September 2026.

Ō pūkenga – About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A post-graduate degree in economics, finance, or a similar quantitative field

  • At least three years of professional experience, preferably within a policy-making institution

  • Proven knowledge of and experience with economic frameworks

  • The ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and build stakeholder relationships

  • A robust understanding of interactions between economic factors, financial systems, and monetary and financial policies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to apply economics to practical policy problems

  • Ability to mentor junior colleagues and contribute to their skill development

  • An intellectual curiosity and drive to find answers
