As a Senior Cost Accountant on the Vernon, CA accounting team, you will act as an integral part of the Regional Cost Accounting Team and provide cost accounting support and expertise to Regional Accounting Leadership and site Finance Business Partner. You will be a key member supporting the Cost Accounting Supervisor for the Vernon, CA site. The Senior Cost Accountant must be controls oriented with a strength in providing information and work product in a well-organized and formatted medium. Responsiveness, speed, and clarity in communication flow is vital to the success and effectiveness of the team. The Regional Cost Accounting Team has locations across the US, so ease in communicating by leveraging technology for on camera interactions is important to get and stay connected. You may be called upon to join initiatives across the enterprise in addition to your core team.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Ensure accounting and reporting activities are completed timely and in accordance with company policies (US GAAP).
- Sales, cost of sales, and margin analysis.
- Prepare and submit journal entries as part of the 4-day month end close process as well as during the month waves.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations that comply with all corporate policies
- Month End & Quarterly Supplemental disclosure reporting.
- Become and stay current with all company policies, accounting and relevant corporate policies.
- Assist with documentation, explanations, and ad hoc reporting related to interim and year end audits with internal and external audit teams.
- Analyze account balances and activity. Take appropriate measures to ensure the accuracy of the accounting records.
- Work with project management to analyze and evaluate costs in ERP.
- Research, troubleshoot, and answer basic to complex questions.
- Support the Cost Accounting Supervisor and Finance Business Partners in the calculation of standards, rates and/or costing standards and analyze impacts on the product cost.
- Support the Finance Business Partner organization on Cost Accounting issues.
- Explore and analyze root causes of any cost-related business operation's issues and propose process changes for improvement.
- Participates in and supports project cost review meetings to identify information used on revenue accounting records and calculations for both Percentage-of-Completion and Point-in-Time projects.
- Review Lower of Cost or Market (LCM) on projects, analyze, and comply with LCM, Loss Contracts policies.
- Work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Planning, Project Management, and Engineering to complete all job responsibilities on a timely basis.
- Support a culture of achievement, operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with BSC (Business Services Center) to ensure accurate transacting and reporting.
- Focus on Process and Efficiency improvement, identifying and escalating issues and bottlenecks.
- Support plant and company-wide initiatives related to shortening the close process, efficiency KPIs, rework, scrap, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or MBA in (Accounting and Finance)
- Five or more years of relevant Cost Accounting experience (Industrial Manufacturing preferred)
- Experience in SAP S/4 HANA strongly preferred and knowledge of BPC a plus
- Strong Excel skills are required (e.g., Pivot Tables, Macros, lookups), experience in Power functions is a plus (Power Query, PowerPivot).
- Knowledge of US GAAP required (especially ASC606)

The pay range for this position is $91,844.69 - $137,831.62 USD Annual. The final offer will depend upon level of experience, internal equity, among other factors.
