Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is modernizing its foundational Product Data Management (PDM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and enterprise resources planning (ER&P) systems; enhancing its data strategies; and improving alignment of its execution processes via a program called Sapphire that is a joint effort between BDS and Boeing Information Digital Technology and Security (IDT&S).
In joining the team, you will have a specific focus on software products and be responsible for creating, revising, and assisting with the implementation of configuration management plans, processes, and procedures tailored to software development. This role requires ensuring the integrity of highly complex software projects and leading to the development of product structure definitions.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Configuration & Data Management Specialist to lead configuration management and data management activities for the Sapphire program. This role focuses on product structure, release control, configuration verification, and data integrity across PDM, MES, and ER&P systems. The role requires experience across related areas such as change management, release management, version control, baseline management, configuration assurance, software configuration management (SCM), master data management (MDM), data governance, and revision tracking
Position Responsibilities:
Create, revise, and implement configuration management plans, processes, and procedures specifically for software products (also applicable to change control and release processes)
Ensure the integrity of highly complex software projects' block point releases; evaluate alternatives and execute authorized changes to maintain product stability (release management/deployment gating)
Lead the development of product structure definitions for software to establish and maintain baselines for requirements and product identification (baseline/versioning, canonical product structure)
Oversee development of change proposals and Configuration Control Board (CCB)/review packages related to software configurations (change review boards, release review boards)
Capture, record, and maintain software product configuration information and reports using PDM, MES, ER&P, and related tools (configuration records, version history, change logs, revision tracking)
Develop solutions to complex technical and data problems requiring creativity and technical judgment (root-cause analysis, data remediation, corrective & preventive actions)
Interact frequently with cross-organizational personnel and external customers to resolve technical and process issues (stakeholder coordination, change communication, governance)
Contribute to data management, data governance, and consistency of configuration data across PDM, MES, and ER&P systems (master data alignment, single source of truth, MDM practices)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s degree or higher
5+ years of experience on a configuration management (CM) team and/or working closely with a configuration management (CM) team
Experience with Configuration Management tools and processes
Experience working in cross-functional teams or projects
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with Software Engineering principles including, but not limited to Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management
Experience with problem-solving skills
Experience with data integrity and traceability
Experience with verbal and written communication skills
Experience drafting CM plans, procedures, and change packages
Experience with CM tools, version control systems, and release management workflows (examples: Git, SVN, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Windchill, Teamcenter, Jira, GitLab)
Experience with data governance, master data management, or enterprise data strategies
Experience facilitating Configuration Control Boards or equivalent governance forums
Experience leading configuration management activities in multi-disciplinary or complex program environments (configuration lead, release lead)
