This position is based on-site at a City of Tucson facility. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available at this time.

Relocation expenses will not be provided for this position. Candidates are responsible for all costs associated with relocating to the Tucson area, if applicable.

ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Senior Cashier position at the City of Tucson Business Services Department is responsible for handling and processing payments for various internal and external customers. This position involves verifying and preparing bank deposits, reconciling transactions, maintaining records, and providing customer service.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Office Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accepts, processes, and records payments from both internal and external customers via cash, credit card, check, or electronic transfer. Assists customers with payment inquiries, provides receipts, and responds to questions regarding account balances, refunds, and discrepancies. Maintains the cash desk by preparing and reconciling funds for deposit, verifying and balancing accounts.

  • Collects and records coin canisters collected by Park Tucson, lifts and transports coin bags and canisters. Utilizes a coin sorter to prepare coin bags. Organizes bank deposits for carrier service pick-up.

  • Investigates discrepancies in deposits and unidentified checks. Verifies daily receipts, reconciles transactions, and deposits in accordance with department policies.

  • Coordinates with other departments regarding payment processing, invoicing, and reporting. Processes payments from incoming mail.

  • Maintains detailed financial logs, generates reports, and ensures compliance with internal controls and audit standards.

  • Assists with training new employees in proper cash-handling procedures and financial systems.

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Mostly office environment .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience: Under one (1) year of relevant experience.  
License/Certifications: A valid and unrestricted driver’s license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required.

Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in cash, check and credit card handling via retail, bank teller or food service cashiering.
Experience with 10 key using keyboard and printing calculator.
