OVERVIEW:

Alberta Blue Cross® is seeking multiple senior business analyst (contractors) to work with IT and business stakeholders to ensure technology aligns with business needs. This includes analyzing processes, gathering requirements, and ensuring solutions align with corporate strategy. The role focuses on standardization, data-driven decisions, and collaboration with stakeholders to modernize Alberta Blue Cross operations, enhance service delivery, and ensure technology investments provide measurable business value.

The successful candidates will reside in either Edmonton and or Calgary as there will be a requirement to travel into the office.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Driving cross functional collaboration: Act as a liaison between IT users, leaders, technical teams, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment.

  • Business case: collaborate with senior leaders and the Strategy team to develop compelling business cases for corporate initiatives that align closely with organizational goals and strategies to justify funding. Support tracking of benefits and value realization.

  • Solution assessment: evaluating potential solutions, whether through technology, process changes, or new business strategies.

  • Planning: work with leaders to support project planning, risk assessment, and ensuring deliverables meet business needs.

  • Consult with clients to gather and effectively capture complex business requirements in the form of use cases at an advanced level.

  • Document requirements using use case modeling concepts.

  • Liaise with the technical staff to provide the business perspective during system analysis and design phases.

  • Work with project managers to plan the day-to-day management of the business analysis, design, development and testing tasks.  Assists in enforcement of project deadlines and schedules.

  • Support design and documentation of future state processes and data flow.

  • Work collaboratively with Functional SMEs, System Analysts and Solution Architects to design and document data integration requirements between operational systems and core ERP systems.

  • Actively participate in project review meetings providing status updates to the business sponsor and project manager.

  • Coordinate the efforts of other business analysts.

  • Prepare ad hoc reports.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Completion of a software development technical institute or university diploma/degree program is required.

  • A minimum of ten years direct experience in business analysis

  • Strategic advisory: Ability to drive decision-making and influence senior leaders by providing strategic insights, clear recommendations, and data-driven justifications for investments and initiatives.

  • Communication: ability to convey information effectively to various stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work with stakeholders across different functions and levels.

  • Problem-solving: ability to evaluate options, balance priorities, and drive sound business decisions.

  • Strong facilitation skills that will be utilized in conducting user workshops to define requirements.

  • Requirements gathering: strong ability to gather, analyze, and document business and IT requirements.

  • Demonstrated strong proficiency in Unified Modeling Language (UML), including but not limited to activity diagrams, use cases, sequence diagrams etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both the user community and technical teams.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Visio.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability to pay persistent attention to detail, while maintaining an overall view of the situation and the big picture.

  • Ability to multitask and meet the challenges of a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Working knowledge of/experience with Project Management body of knowledge and software development methodologies would be beneficial.
