Overview:

The Senior BP&A Analyst role on the R&M Consolidations team is a key contributor responsible for the reporting and analysis of financial results within the Refining & Marketing segment.  This position is central to understanding and explaining gross margin drivers and capture, integrating operational and market dynamics with financial outcomes, and sharing valuable insights with the Executive Leadership Team. Serving as a main contact for both the BP&A organization and Investor Relations, the analyst supports strategic decisions and ensures financial transparency.  This position operates within a team of analysts and may also serve in Income and Cash flow forecasting roles, as well as Business Planning functions as the need arises and as determined by the skillset of the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monthly and Quarterly Financial Reporting and Analysis Leadership: Spearhead the monthly and quarterly Financial reporting and analysis process, collaborating seamlessly within BP&A and across various internal departments to analyze and communicate financial results to the Executive Leadership team, with an emphasis on providing insights from operational and financial drivers to margin and EBITDA results relative to expectations. Exhibit independent, proactive problem-solving skills, utilizing in-depth practical knowledge to identify key drivers to results and variances relative to forecasts. 
  • High-Level Analysis and Communication: Conduct high-level analyses of various aspects of financial results, identifying macro trends and comparisons to historical periods, and crafting compelling narratives for communication to senior leadership, including the CFO and CEO.
  • Key Liaison Function: Serve as the primary point of contact for BP&A and Investor Relations analysts, offering detailed explanations of external metrics such as capture, operating expenses (opex), gross margin, inventory effects, working capital, and cash flow.
  • Coordinate and maintain consolidated and regional Market Metrics assumptions, pricing, reporting and analysis in conjunction with Investor Relations analysts. 
  • Cross-train to contribute to income and cash flow forecasting functions of the Consolidation team, as well coordinating quarterly guidance processes with Investor Relations based on forecasted operational and financial outlooks.  
  • Process Improvement and Issue Resolution: Identify, propose, and implement action plans to resolve or enhance complex internal processes and issues, demonstrating a proactive approach to continuous improvement. Demonstrate experience in problem solving and be a champion of change management.
  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Contribute as a valuable resource within our cross-functional, dynamic team, supporting and mentoring other team members, particularly those with less experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline required. Advanced degree or professional certification preferred.
  • Six (6) years in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Travel Requirement: Minimal travel required
  • Experience in financial forecasting, business planning, and scenario modeling within the refining or related industries.
  • Familiarity and understanding of R&M Accounting standards and Income Statement reporting preferred.
  • Familiarity with Excel, Power BI, SAP BW, PowerPoint, and Hyperion would be highly preferred.
