Senior Associate Scientist,  Pharmaceutical Formulations R&D
 

Zoetis is the largest animal health company in the world, with an industry-leading veterinary medicine research and development team. We seek a talented formulation scientist to join and actively contribute to our research and development team’s efforts to develop novel veterinary therapeutics.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support research and development of novel pharmaceutical drug products, including sterile liquids, oral solids, suspensions, topicals, and various other dosage forms.
  • Execute discovery-stage pre-formulation studies for pharmaceutical drug candidates.
  • Perform drug product and raw material characterization and analysis independently, such as pH, density, viscosity, hardness, etc.
  • Operate common pharmaceutical laboratory equipment and associated processes independently.
  • Author technical documents such as batch records, formulation memos, study protocols, development reports, etc.
  • Perform internal safety inspections and execute corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners (CROs & CMOs) throughout the development process.
  • Ability to accommodate local, domestic, and international business travel up to 10% annually. 
     

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BS (with >5 years’ experience), or MS (with 0-5 years’ experience) in chemistry, pharmaceutics, chemical/biomedical engineering, or related field.
  • Hands-on knowledge of pharmaceutical formulation development and laboratory best practices.
  • Experience authoring scientific technical documents.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience working in matrix-like teams and collaborating with diverse scientists, globally.
     

Other Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience operating specialty pharmaceutical lab equipment, such as spray driers, homogenizers, tablet presses, fluid beds, etc.
  • Experience with advanced statistical and graphing software such as JMP or GraphPad, and in executing Design of Experiment (DoE) approaches and instituting Quality by Design (QbD).
  • Familiarity with basic pharmacokinetic concepts.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing process development, scale-up, technology transfer to pilot/commercial scale.
  • Familiarity with the Animal Health industry and associated regulatory requirements
