Title: Senior Associate, Investment Accounting

Job Summary
This position will play a key role in the company’s corporate Investment Accounting Team within the U.S. Controller’s Group. The Barings Investment Accounting Team is responsible for the accounting and reporting of corporate investments, as well as completing operational fund consolidations in accordance with ASC 320, ASC 321, ASC 323 and ASC 810.
This position will be primarily responsible for corporate debt, loan and equity investments and derivatives accounting. This position will also play a key role in the quarterly corporate fund consolidations process. This position will require working with internal and external teams to obtain and analyze source information including investor statements and fund trial balances. The ideal candidate will have a natural desire to learn about the company’s investments, strategies, and fund structures, as well as the current processes for investment accounting and fund consolidations.
The position will report to the Director of Investment Accounting and Funds Consolidation. The position will have regular interactions with all levels of the organization and reside in our corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review and record investment activity on a monthly basis
- Analyze investment activity and provide an overview to management as part of the monthly close process
- Upload investment and consolidating fund balances into the corporate G/L accounting system in an accurate and timely manner
- Work internally with Treasury, FP&A and Tax teams to obtain appropriate support and create investment slides for monthly and quarterly reporting presentations
- Work with fund TPAs to obtain appropriate fund trial balances as part of the quarterly consolidated reporting
- Assist Barings domestic and international subsidiaries regarding all operational investment and fund consolidations
- Ensure all corporate and fund activity is recorded correctly and eliminated within the consolidated trial balances
- Gather, organize and report footnote disclosures for corporate investments and consolidated funds for inclusion in Barings consolidated financial statements
- Ensure controls are implemented and operational within the investment and fund consolidations processes
- Proactively search ways to improve and streamline processes
- Lead special projects, as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred
- 2-5 years relevant accounting experience (CPA – or on track) with public accounting experience strongly preferred;
- Prior experience in financial services, particularly in investment accounting, fund accounting or financial reporting is strongly preferred;
- Knowledge of investment accounting US GAAP Requirements, specifically ASC 320, ASC 321, ASC 323 and ASC 810;
- Strong interactive skills – able to build strong working relationships and communicate effectively across company locations and organizational lines;
- Self-motivated and open to change – able to work independently as well as part of a broader team;
- Excellent time management skills - able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines;
- Experience with Workday a plus;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel
