KEY RESPONSIBILITY:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Applications Engineer to become a key member of our dynamic team in the fast-paced consumer goods (FMCG) industry, based in Cape Town, South Africa.
The ideal candidate will bring 7-10 years of expertise in electrical engineering, PLC programming, and process automation, as well as experience working with digital and analog equipment.
This role demands a strong ability to work independently, a high level of proficiency in electrical design, and the capability to interpret electrical circuits and PLC logic, all supported by exceptional problem-solving skills.
The position requires substantial travel, with over 40% of the time spent at various locations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design of controls and instrumentation, preparation of instrument lists, I/O lists, EFDs, loop drawings, routing diagrams, instrument specifications, instrument data sheets, procurement, design of control philosophies, analog diagrams, design of PLC cabinets & PLC programming.
• Estimate and prepare proposals for electrical & instrumentation scope of supply for inquiries.
• Operational fault finding of ancillary equipment control systems. Create and maintain bills of materials (BOM’s) on company Material Requirement Planning (MRP) system.
• Engage professionally with clients to comprehend their needs and propose effective solutions. Prepare and present quotations and tenders, supporting contract pursuits and business development endeavors.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions with existing systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to electrical systems, PLCs, sensors, and process automation to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency.
• Conduct regular maintenance and upgrades of electrical and automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers and technicians in best practices for electrical and automation engineering.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve systems and processes.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all electrical and automation activities.
• Travel to various locations as required, with travel exceeding 40% of the time, to support project implementation and client needs.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
• BSc/ BEng/ BTech or NDip in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience in an Industrial Control Environment.
• Minimum 3 years PLC & DCS programming experience (preferably Siemens, Allan Bradley & Schneider software).
• Minimum 3 years control loop tuning experience.
• Good understanding of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics.
• Good understanding of national and international electrical equipment standards & regulations.
• Proficient in Excel and Word with exposure to AutoCAD Electrical and EPlan.
