Senior Analyst - Intraday Liquidity Data Analytics

What is the opportunity?

As a Senior Analyst - Intraday liquidity, you will work as part of a cross platform team to develop and manage Intraday Liquidity (IDL) monitoring and stress testing platform within Treasury Market Services to meet regulatory and internal requirements. You will support IDL stress testing across several regions and regulatory regimes, and work on the Toronto trading floor with daily interaction with Capital Markets and Corporate Treasury.  

In this role, you will focus on the management of all material sources of intraday liquidity usage through Financial Management Intermediaries (FMIs) such as Lynx, our main foreign currency nostro accounts, and use of securities settlements systems and settlement agents, including the identification of required data for monitoring and estimation of the size of ongoing liquidity needs, working with technology teams to develop tools and data sources, and development of assumptions around potential behaviors of each FMI, RBC’s clients and counterparts, and RBC’s own activities under stress conditions.

In addition, you will empower business partners with information and actionable insights, drive continuous improvement, and support our operational strategy and support internal governance practices with Corporate Treasury, Group Risk Management, and respond to regulators as required.  

What you will do?

  • Coordinate, prepare and compile intraday liquidity regulatory returns to OSFI in accordance with timelines for monthly and quarterly deliverables.
  • Gather and consolidate liquidity information and conduct complex data analysis using large datasets to identify trends and insights.
  • Understand the IDL regulatory requirements and how they are addressed through the tools, analytics and reporting. 
  • Design and deliver new tools and capabilities such as developing of stress testing scenarios, stress test results / analytics and cash buffering requirements / optimization.
  • Elicit, analyze and document business requirements, business rules and data sources, working with business users, IT stakeholders and development teams throughout system implementation and delivery.
  • Coordinate with partners to implement robust data sourcing, integration of data, reporting, and analytics capabilities, leveraging enterprise capabilities and technology where appropriate.
  • Pro-actively communicate and collaborate with business clients to analyze functional requirements and deliver the appropriate artefacts as needed: business requirement documents, functional specifications, data specifications, use cases, workflow analysis, reports, etc.
  • Continually improve management reporting capabilities, including the design and presentation of IDL reporting and stress testing reports.
  • Conduct analyses and synthesize findings in order to help teams identify optimization opportunities
  • Support IDL goals (People, Efficiency, Resiliency) and track progress against targets
  • Design and execute testing to ensure accuracy and readiness for go-live

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or risk.
  • At least 2 years working in a financial industry environment (back office settlements, finance, risk, cash management, or equivalent) with demonstrated knowledge of most capital markets products and banking activities, and 3 years overall relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of regulatory liquidity requirements such as OSFI’s Liquidity Adequacy Requirements (LAR) guidelines and related Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS 248) standards
  • Strong strategic thinker with outstanding capability for problem solving
  • Data management software experience such as participating or designing software or using macros or programming tools like SQL, VBA, Hadoop, Tableau, or python an asset.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment
  • Good writing skills to develop methodology documents and decks for senior management
  • Have an interest in learning the intricacies of the infrastructure/plumbing that underpins the movement of cash/securities across the financial system 
  • Willingness to take on responsibility, lead coordination across teams and become a true SME in IDL   
     

Nice-to-have

  • Tableau skills including report creation
  • Experience with advanced statistical techniques
  • Experience with banking settlement processes including use of financial intermediaries and central counterparty clearing.
  • Experience or demonstrated knowledge or aptitude for financial products and their characteristics notably through the settlement process.
  • Direct experience in liquidity management measurement or policy.
  • Experience with regulatory reporting or policy driven environments
