THE ROLE

In this role, you are responsible for supporting the Controller in a high performing accounting organization.  You will achieve our financial reporting goals in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) by partnering with both internal and external resources.  The individual must use advanced analytical and organizational skills to solve problems.  This includes resolving day-to-day accounting issues and interacting with various teams to ensure proper accounting processes are in place and followed. 

QUALIFICATIONS

•    Bachelor’s degree or MBA in Accounting
•    CPA required
•    Three years of public accounting experience 
•    Strong knowledge of GAAP & internal controls
•    Ability to research technical accounting issues
•    Experience working in music industry, along with experience managing financial issues related to assessments. 
•    Advanced analytical skills using Excel
•    Detail oriented, and highly organized
•    Self-starter and results driven with excellent problem-solving skills 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

YOU WILL EXECUTE THE MLC’S ACCOUNTING STRATEGY BY:

•    Assisting in the development and documentation of Internal control policies and procedures
•    Reviewing all transactions for proper coding to ensure accuracy of our financial reporting 
•    Providing support for the annual audit 
•    Mastering the accounting software used and developing process improvements
•    Working with internal and external partners to achieve our goals
•    Applying critical thinking to manage decisions for data transparency

YOU WILL PARTICIPATE IN ALL ACCOUNTING EFFORTS BY:

  • Assisting the controller with the month-end and year-end close process, preparing all financial statements timely, accurately and in compliance with GAAP
  • Participate in financial controls testing and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with internal and external audit standards.
  • Perform detailed monthly and quarterly royalty assessment reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy of incoming data from digital service providers (DSPs).
  • Generate periodic assessment performance and variance reports, highlighting key insights and trends for leadership review.
  • Use of the banking software to enter wire transfers and review the daily cash report
  • Participate in the monthly distribution cycle and prepare royalty distribution entries.
