Job Description

SEMCO Energy is seeking a Supervisor, Gas Control to lead our Control Room operations and ensure safe, reliable gas delivery across our pipeline systems. This role is responsible for maintaining the Control Room Management Plan, supervising Gas Controllers, and managing gas flow routing from supply to market while assessing weather impacts and responding to supply issues or emergencies. The Supervisor works closely with Engineering, Operations, and Gas Supply to coordinate daily purchases and deliveries that maintain system reliability, integrity, and safety. Additionally, this position serves as the on-call subject matter expert for transmission emergencies, providing 24/7 support for critical gas control matters.


You Will:

Manage the day-to-day Operations in the Control Room including the oversight and review of daily activities.

Oversee the delivery strategies to meet customer needs/system requirements.

Actively participate during critical, real-time supply emergencies or operational events.

Work with Gas Supply, Engineering, Operations, and Gas Controllers on strategies to match system load with available resource, and to identify assets available for optimization.

Ensure compliance with pipeline tariffs and Operational Flow Orders.

Assist with coordination response to system emergencies including notification of field supervision, crew personnel, local emergency services, and internal protocols, and use independent judgement in acting as the overall coordinator for information flow and response allocations.

Maintain a schedule to ensure there are no gaps in shifts and compliance with requirements and procedures.

Oversee all Control Room Management (CRM) responsibilities, review controllers’ records to verify completeness, and maintain records to fulfill requirements.

Write and maintain CRM policies and procedures

Manage the CRM record retention system to meet auditing requirements by the State/Federal.

Ensure that all required Federal, State, and other jurisdictional CRM compliances are met.

What You Bring:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a field related equivalent experience preferred.

Knowledge of basic gas distribution, mechanical & electrical principles required.

Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience.

Ability to learn the SEMCO transmission/distribution system and supply management.

Ability to conceptualize and analyze multiple scenarios in solving broadly defined business problems.

Ability to use tact and diplomacy while leading a team atmosphere.

Ability to communicate clearly and accurately during times of stress and make quick independent decisions when managing rapidly changing circumstances.

Ability to proficiently operate company software and information systems for analysis, decision-making, and presentation purposes.

Working knowledge of pipeline storages, interstate pipelines, and SEMCO Gate station facilities.

Understanding of the role of Asset Optimization and its impact on supply, storage, and distribution systems

Valid driver’s license pursuant to company policy.

Salary Information:

We offer a competitive annual salary range of $88,000 to $127,750 USD commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive package including short-term incentives, health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
