The Cardinal Health Global Security teams are responsible for designing, developing, and implementing procedures, programs, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements. Additional responsibilities include mitigating risks to the company, its employees, the environment, and the communities in which it does business.

Job Summary

Key requirements for the Security Manager (RSM) are to support risk mitigation to company assets, some of which include employees, visitors, products, reputation, facilities, and the communities in which we do business. This role must develop relationships with all levels of the organization and be prepared to provide solutions to stakeholders in a timely and professional manner. The person should be practical, proactive, and innovative, to ensure the Global Security department’s objectives and security industry best practices are communicated and executed.

To ensure all department goals are met/exceeded, the Security Manager will partner with the Regional Security Director (RSD) team, with additional collaboration amongst all department team members, multiple corporate functions, business unit leaders, and external partners.

Responsibilities

Program Implementation and Management- 80%

  • Lead the development and implementation of a new Healthcare Security Program designed to protect practitioners, patients, and critical medical assets across a national network of healthcare practice locations.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for practices, identifying gaps in physical security, access control, and emergency procedures.
  • Partner with HR, EHS, Security Technology, and Practice Operations to define and train staff on incident reporting, de-escalation, and patient/visitor management protocols.
  • Build and mentor a network of Security Coordinators (SC’s) ensuring access and understanding of necessary tools and information to optimize the role
  • Develop scalable project plans, timelines, and key performance indicators for the rollout of the Healthcare Security Program, ensuring alignment with enterprise security strategy and compliance standards
  • Serve as the program project manager, coordinating between cross-functional teams to implement healthcare-specific security technology and procedures
  • Benchmark with peers at other companies, including competitors, on program trends and activities

Training - 20%

  • Develop and deliver specialized healthcare security training from practitioners and support staff, including active threat response, patient interaction safety, and security awareness
  • Partner with clinical educators to ensure training integrates seamlessly into existing healthcare compliance, licensing requirements, and onboarding programs
  • Support crisis management planning and exercises in conjunction with a cross-functional team

Travel and Location

  • Requires approximately 45% travel (varies based on business need)
  • Willingness to travel to various meetings, facilities or locations including overnight trips.
  • Security Manger role is remote, but preferred location is within reasonable distance of a major airport.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree within the following fields of study: Business, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or Security Management preferred
  • ASIS CPP or IAHSS CHPA certification preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within healthcare security management is strongly preferred, particularly in environments such as medical offices, clinics, or ambulatory care centers
  • Proven ability to build a security program from inception, including program design, stake holder engagement, budgeting, and implementation
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated success leading multi-phase security program deployments across geographically dispersed or regulated healthcare settings
  • Ability to adapt and apply experience within evolving organizational and healthcare environments
  • Experienced in guiding cross-functional healthcare and business teams to align operational, clinical, and security priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Experience presenting to audiences at all organizational levels, including senior executives.
  • Must be capable of designing and implementing security programs specific to healthcare environments, balancing patient safety, practitioner access, and asset protection
  • Must demonstrate experience building or maturing security programs for multi-site healthcare practices, including compliance with all regulatory standards
  • Must be able to assess risk within clinical environments, identifying vulnerabilities associated with patient-facing spaces, treatment areas, and controlled substances
  • Must collaborate with healthcare operations leaders to develop protocols that protect company employees and assets, while maintaining continuity of care
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Must have inclusive leadership skills to achieve desired results in a highly matrixed work environment, and proven track record of exceeding stakeholder expectations
  • Must be highly self-directed and capable of independently managing multiple workstreams, while maintaining alignment with enterprise goals.
  • Must have proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining security programs that align with recognized industry best practices. This includes establishing foundational frameworks for new or evolving healthcare environments.
  • Must have experience developing and implementing policies, standards, and training to protect clinical environments. Should be skilled at conducting gap assessments and deploying sustainable security controls to mitigate risk.
  • Must be highly capable of establishing and sustaining cross-functional partnerships with both enterprise and local healthcare leadership to develop scalable security initiatives. Should be able to lead multi-disciplinary workstreams that align clinical operations, facilities, security technology, and compliance teams around unified risk mitigation strategies and measurable program goals.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, analytical problem-solving, and innovation in developing practical, cost-effective solutions that deliver measurable results.
  • Must serve as a trusted advisor to healthcare and business leaders, providing clear and proactive communication about emerging threats, security trends, and compliance requirements. Should be adept at translating complex security concepts into operational guidance that supports both patient care and business continuity.
  • Must be able to clearly articulate the business value of security initiatives and influence stakeholders across all levels to drive adoption and sustainment of healthcare security programs.  
  • Must demonstrate agility and openness to course-correcting as program needs evolve – adapting strategies, timelines, and methodologies based on lessons learned and shifting risk landscapes.
  • Must maintain calm, decisive, leadership during critical incidents, maintaining clear communication and proactive decision making in high stress or patient impacting situations.
  • Must have track record establishing and maintaining relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement/emergency agencies and security and risk mitigation service providers.
  • Must be dedicated to the principle of integrity and ethical behavior

Anticipated salary range: $87,700-$125,300
