The Precision Navigation engineering department within the Collins Mission Systems organization has an exciting opportunity for a Hardware Engineering Manager to join our team developing the next generation Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems, as well as providing support to existing fielded systems. Collins/RTX  is a world leader in air traffic sensors and automation systems, responsible for providing air traffic tools to branches of the US military and foreign governments.

This position is for a Hardware Engineering Section Manager/IPTL who will lead the Hardware Engineering Design section within the Precision Navigation HW department  in Mission Systems.  The Hardware Design Section Manager will report to the Hardware Department Manager who has other sections in Aberdeen, MD and Fullerton, CA.

The Engineering Design Section Manager/IPTL will lead a team of 10-15 engineers working a variety of development and sustainment tasks ranging from chassis/rack/shelter development, circuit board design and development, system interconnections/cable design, and COTS selection/configuration/documentation.  As a Front Line Leader (FLL), you will be responsible for working with other Section Managers to ensure the proper staffing of programs and proposals. 

This position is located in Marlborough, MA and does not provide relocation.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee and provide leadership on all programs (primarily Atnavics) within the section (including monthly program reviews and quarterly Estimate At Complete (EAC) reviews)
  • Serve as the hardware lead for proposal estimation and writing, including Basis of Estimates (certification required)
  • Review and approve all proposals for new work within the section
  • Perform special assignments as required by the Department Manager
  • Lead cross-functional Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), including engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams
  • Oversee the design, development, integration, and testing of hardware systems to meet program requirements and customer expectations
  • Develop and maintain detailed program plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with program milestones and deliverables
  • Identify and manage risks, develop mitigation strategies, and resolve issues to ensure program success
  • Drive engineering excellence by ensuring adherence to technical standards, quality processes, and best practices
  • Support the performance and career development of all the members of the section, providing open and honest feedback to section members developing talent and ensuring adequate resources to meet the skill-set demands of our programs
  • The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. 

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • 10+ years experience in mechanical or electrical design, documentation and fabrication of DoD and/or FAA programs
  • Typically requires: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations 
  • OR  Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Broad based hardware engineering background
  • Excellent interpersonal and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge in System Integration and COTS Integration
  • Experience with program cost and schedule monitoring and reporting (EVMS)
  • Strong team building and mentoring skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • 5+ years experience in Task Management or other Lead role on Medium-Large Development jobs
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience as an IPT or CPT Lead
  • EVMS Certified and professional exposure to EVMS or similar budget tracking system
  • Demonstrated technical and cost proposal experience with knowledge of bid metrics and costing
  • Experience successfully managing to cost and schedule requirements for assigned tasks
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. Qualified Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist or equivalent
  • Experience with air traffic control or weather system hardware

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
