Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking a First Operator to join our team. This position will be supporting the Propulsion Systems Division at our Magna, Utah facility.

Duties, Expectations and Essential Functions:

Primary assignment for this position is in Finishing Building 8 performing activities and tasks associated with final processing of rocket motors and components, motor disassembly, Motor handling and shipping processes.

Area specific essential functions, responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

•  Demonstrated skills and aptitude to safely and efficiently perform critically detailed and meticulous hands-on work, while meeting established timelines and costs
•  Ability to perform as part of a critical moves team in a safe and efficient manner
•  Ability to manufacture products with tight tolerances including work such as Cork application, cork potting, painting, adhesive applications, installing precision RTV beads
•  Safe and competent operation of all hand tools, powered tools, tooling, powered equipment, lifting equipment, overhead cranes and other equipment utilized in area
•  Physical ability to individually lift objects up to 50 pounds
•  Ability to read, clearly interpret, and accurately follow procedures, standard work instructions, engineering drawings and specifications, ensuring all requirements are met
•  Certify to and sustain all Quality Manufacturing-to-Inspect (MTI) requirements associated with the area
•  Proficient and accurate in performing basic math calculations and with the use of precision measuring and inspection instruments, gages, and tools utilized in the area such as OD and ID micrometers, beveled protractors, electronic coating thickness gauges, ohm meters, calipers and depth micrometers
•  Complete and sustain sound proficiencies in all required training, including skill based training
•  Ability to function effectively under close scrutiny in a high visibility, customer focused area
•  Other duties as assigned by leadership

Second Operator essential functions and expectations include, but are not limited to:

•  Assist the training of new and lower classification operators through on-the-job coaching and mentoring
•  Effectively and constructively communicate with personnel including leadership, coworkers and support team members
•  Participates in PES improvement activities, process/procedure improvements, standard work instructions and the global improvement of Operations
•  Engage in and promote SIS activities, hazard abatements, OP-E, Take Two, etc.
•  Demonstrate the initiative and ability to become knowledgeable and proficient in most area processes and support most levels of hands-on operations
•  Work to enhance the safety, quality, cost and scheduling performance within the work area
•  Other duties as assigned by leadership


Bids shall be awarded to the senior qualified employee. In selecting the senior qualified employee, the Company will take into account the employee’s ability to do the work, ability to perform the essential functions of the job, specific job experience on similar or related jobs, past job performance and such factors that would contribute to safe workmanship. In the event insufficient bids are received for the opening, the position will be filled in accordance with other provisions of this Agreement. Employee may be required to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Upon successful bid award, employee will be restricted from bidding in accordance with the current union contract.
