SCUK Corporate Underwriting Credit Manager (S3)

Santander Consumer is now looking for a Corporate Credit Manager to join the Leasing and RV Risk team in this newly created role.

The key purpose of the role is to manage the end-to-end process of credit decisions for corporates on a Master Hire Agreement/revolving credit facilities with exposure of greater than £5m. This role will be accountable for the credit assessment, portfolio oversight, setting up a corporate credit policy and review process, integration of Experian commercial bureau and ensure robust policy and compliance.

Reporting into the Head of Leasing and RV risk the successful candidate will also attend SCUK Loan Committee for credit applications.

Please note this role is a hybrid role with at least 3 days a week in the Redhill office.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Underwrite new and manage the renewal of Master Hire Agreements (MHA), a revolving credit line facility, for lends greater than £5m
  • Analyse management accounts, historical financials, cash flow, projects and industry drivers to form a credit worthiness decision for SCUK loan committee approval
  • Overlay Experian Commercial data points (Commercial Delphi Scores, payment performance, director linkages, Country Court judgements (CCJ), trade payment trends, bureau aging and sector benchmarks) to validate financial analysis and inform decisioning
  • Present concise and comprehensive applications at SCUK Loan Committee for final approval
  • Liaise with RV Risk to understand the associated RV risk of the application
  • Perform annual reviews and stress testing on high value exposures
  • Maintain early warning metrics and trigger remediation for deteriorating credits using internal MI and Dun and Bradstreet/Experian monitoring services (I.e. director changes, bankruptcies)
  • Recommend Portfolio actions (amend, restrict, escalate, exit) with clear rationale and impact assessment
  • Operate within established risk appetite and SCUK credit policies; identify gaps and propose policy updates to be approved in Executive Risk Committee (ERC)
  • Draft, review and embed underwriting standards, delegated authorities, documented checklists and covenants aligned to the product and exposure level
  • Contribute to SCUK loan committee and ERC papers and ensure decisions are documented, consistent and defensible
  • Maintain a complete audit trails and evidence for all underwriting decisions and periodic reviews
  • Act as the primary point of contract for internal and external audit requests related to assigned portfolio
  • Respond to audit findings, implement remediation actions and report progress to both external and internal auditors
  • Ensure compliance with FCA/PRA expectations, anti-money laundering checks and data protection requirements
  • Work closely with Leasing Business Development Managers (BDM), New Business Underwriters, 1st and 2nd Line Financial Crime, Legal, Head of Leasing and RV Risk and the SCUK Risk Director to deliver balanced commercial outcomes
  • Present concise MI/Experian insights as well as guarantees, collateral, ratings, RV risk assessments at SCUK Loan Committee for final approval

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrable corporate underwriting experience, preferably in asset finance, leasing, or structured lending, with previous exposure to Master Hire agreements or revolving credit line facilities
  • Proven experience of underwriting large exposures of £5m+
  • Demonstratable experience using Experian commercial bureau data in underwriting and monitoring workflows
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; confident presenting to SCUK Loan committee and SCUK directors
  • Solid understanding of policy governance, audit process, regulatory requirements (FCA/PRA) and risk appetite frameworks
  • Advance knowledge of financial statements analysis (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and management accounts
  • Interpretation of Experian commercial credit scores, payment performance data and adverse filings (CCJ, insolvencies)
  • Director and Shareholder linkage analysis to assess group exposure
  • Bench marking applications against sectoral data and peer performance
  • Ongoing monitoring of exposures, covenant compliance, and early warning indicators
  • Drafting and presenting clear, data driven credit proposals for approval at SCUK Loan Committee
