What a day of a Science Lab Specialist looks like:
Prepares solutions and lab chemicals, obtains specimens, and operates autoclave. Keeps solutions and lab equipment up-to-date and distributes as needed.
Conducts basic maintenance on lab equipment. Arranges for repair of equipment and machinery.
Inspects equipment and machinery for safe operation. Reports any observed problems to supervisor.
Actively participates in the inventory control activities of the department. Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
Researches and recommends purchase of systems, needed supplies, materials, and equipment.
Assists with the development, evaluation, and purchase of lab and program materials and resources. Coordinates resources with textbook and course syllabus to ensure a successful program.
Reviews lab materials and evaluate usefulness of lab resources on a periodic basis to ensure accuracy of information.
Assists with orientations, seminars and preparation of lab reports. Administers special orientations for Student Outreach programs.
Manages, controls and disposes of hazardous materials within a lab environment. Oversees the disposal of hazardous waste and bio-hazardous materials.
Follows established safety practices. Maintains and performs in a safe workplace.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Associate degree or two years of college coursework in a related field of study
Some related experience
Knowledge of:
Microsoft Outlook and Word or similar applications
Skilled in:

Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, and take responsibility for a high level of service

Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
One year of related experience
Hands-on research lab experience
Analytical lab instrumentation experience

Reach and grasp objects
Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Stand for extended periods of time

Communicate information orally and in writing
Receive and understand information through oral and written communication
Proofread and check documents for accuracy
Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury
Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level, and other conditions
Work a fluctuating work schedule

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $17.95/ hr, however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
