Your Role in Our Story:
As an Operational Risk Analyst at ACT Commodities, you will safeguard the resilience of a fast growing environmental trading and origination business that operates across both voice and digital channels. You will help design, monitor and continuously enhance the operational risk framework around complex environmental products, physical and financial trades, structured origination deals and our digital platform flows.
Using real time data, analytics and AI enabled tooling, you will interrogate controls and incidents at the source, identify emerging patterns across desks, products and systems, and translate those insights into tangible improvements. Your work will enable ACT to scale environmental impact with robust, data informed and well controlled decision making. You will sit close to the trading floor and work day to day with Originators, Traders, Structurers, Operations, Technology, Data, and other Risk and Control teams. The core focus will be on the European environmental and energy markets, while contributing to the build out of a coherent global risk capability in partnership with colleagues covering the US and APAC businesses.
In essence, your role involves:
- Run control assurance cycles over key environmental trading, origination and digital platform processes, assessing the design and effectiveness of controls across the trade life cycle, from onboarding and booking to settlement and reporting.
- Conduct risk based assessments of critical business and technology processes, including trade capture, pricing tools, digital execution flows, position management, confirmations and reconciliations.
- Oversee day to day incident management: log, classify and track incidents, perform data driven root cause analysis, and coordinate remediation actions with process and system owners.
- Perform thematic reviews to identify structural operational risks, such as model or tool misuse, booking errors, reference data issues, hand off gaps between teams or platforms, and weaknesses in end to end process ownership.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of new products, new markets, new clients and new digital features in partnership with Trading, Origination, Legal, Compliance and Technology.
- Lead and support post incident and near miss reviews, producing clear reports, trend analyses and recommendations that can be actioned by senior stakeholders.
- Design, refine and maintain risk and control taxonomies, ensuring that operational risks specific to environmental markets, structured deals and digital channels are explicitly captured.
- Develop and enhance dashboards, metrics and early warning indicators that provide real time visibility of operational risk, control health and incident trends across desks, entities and regions.
- Work with Technology and Data teams to strengthen the use of AI and advanced analytics in anomaly detection, pattern recognition and process monitoring.
- Contribute to training and awareness across the first line, helping originators, traders and platform teams to recognise, escalate and own operational risk in their activities.
Your Expertise:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:
- 5+ years of experience in a second line operational risk role or a closely related risk, audit or controls function, preferably in a trading, commodities or financial markets environment.
- Experience or strong interest in environmental products or adjacent areas such as commodities, power and gas, carbon markets or structured origination; familiarity with financial exchanges and instruments is expected, and prior exposure to market making, algorithmic trading or proprietary trading is an advantage.
- Bachelor or Master degree in a STEM discipline, Finance, Economics or a closely related field, with evidence of strong quantitative and analytical capability.
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interrogate data, challenge assumptions and connect detailed incidents to broader themes.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, commercially driven trading environment with changing priorities and multiple stakeholders.
- High standards for personal performance, with a mindset oriented toward continuous improvement, automation and simplification of processes.
- Clear and concise communicator, able to translate technical and operational issues into language that senior business leaders and non specialists can act upon.
If you meet these criteria and are ready to contribute your expertise to a dynamic and challenging environment, we encourage you to apply.
