Job Description
To manage risk in a high complex environment through development of risk management strategy aligned to segment and group strategy for area of accountability and ensure implementation thereof; manage a team to deliver on strategy and to drive platform thinking and enabling or embedding risk capabilities to support mitigation of risk; manage key stakeholder engagements across risk advisory, assurance and reporting functions; advise on appropriate risk oversight functions across international subsidiaries where applicable
- Provide input into, and implement, corporate governance, compliance, integrity and ethics policies 
- Ensure appropriate accountability to identify and manage risk exposures where they may arise
- Provide requisite risk requirements in the management and implementation of Manage SLAs with Business Unit stakeholders across FSR 
- Stays abreast of relevant industry risk management best practices and legislative amendments and suggests ways to leverage these to ensure continuous improvement.
- Creates risk awareness and manages audit findings.
- Participate in Group risk forums where required and cascades relevant information through team.
- Develop a legal, risk and compliance strategy for the business to proactively identify risks to the bank.
- Provide oversight of implementation of legal, risk and compliance policies and procedures, aligned to FirstRand policies and procedures, in order to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret and apply policy to business to drive risk outcomes.
- Develop key risk and performance indicators to measure risk outcomes
- Defined business strategy by translating it into the business operations which fall within defined risk appetite.
- Draft methodical risk monitoring plans to appropriately cover all areas of business oversight, whilst ensuring that these are aligned to segment, group and divisional COE monitoring outcomes
- Ensure that risk reports are produced timeously, covering all relevant areas of oversight including risk monitoring, risk assessments and all other risk exercises
- Provide guidance and input into governance, process and delivery of new products being developed by the BU to ensure appropriate risk considerations 
- Communicate policy modification, objective achievement progress and critical success factors to impacted stakeholders.
- Ensure the development and implementation of multiple practices in alignment with operational policy and procedural frameworks.
- Identify interconnected problems, determine its impact and use to develop best fit alternatives, driving best practice solutions
- Be aware of, and responsive to local conditions.
- Influence the development of appropriate organisational structures, capacity and delivery systems.
- Appropriately manage and steer the BU Risk and Compliance Committee to ensure all key risks are socialised and escalated where applicable
- Draft and maintain core BU risk charters and frameworks
- Provide appropriate risk advice on other BU policies, charters and frameworks covering areas such as Credit, Shariah, Treasury etc.
- Establish a sound collaborative relationship between the Shariah and Risk teams to ensure that all Shariah risks are classified, reported on, managed and remediated per FSR risk guidelines
- Ensure that Shariah input is procured in relevant risk identification, assessment, reporting, remediation and monitoring exercises
- Implement best practices against the risk management framework and adjust practices as and when necessary
- Establish a sound risk management culture through awareness of campaigns to influence behaviour and drive the importance of compliance
- Escalate critical regulatory risk issues as identified to BU EXCO/relevant Risk Committees and/or Group structures as necessary
- Brainstorm, identify, implement and drive innovative best practice ideas within the organisation to ensure increased efficiencies
- Create and participate in specialist communities of practice and represents the organisation at Group and industry level to share best practice insights and solutions
- Drive strategic projects, change management and platform integration across operations
- Leverage Group capability to exploit opportunities
- Ensure and encourage adherence to an operational framework of policies and procedures
- Maintain expert knowledge on relevant legislative amendments, industry best practices and provide advice to relevant stakeholders
- Maintain up to date knowledge of local and global trends, with specific emphasis and focus on BU ambits of control
- Provide thought leadership and expertise
- Demonstrate leadership behaviour through personal involvement, commitment and dedication in support of organisational values
- Develop, encourage and nurture collaborative relationships across business areas and across the group
- Identify and encourage participation in activities that are appropriate for own and employee development in area of responsibility
- Manage team or teams in areas of responsibility in delivery against performance targets and achievement of wider human capital objectives
