Risk & Compliance Team

At Howden, our Risk and Compliance teams are at the heart of maintaining the organisation’s resilience, integrity, and alignment with global regulatory expectations. As a graduate, you’ll step into a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment where your work will directly influence the company’s risk strategy and decision-making at every level.

If you are passionate about understanding how a global insurance broker shapes business strategy, tackles emerging risks, strengthens internal controls and responds to new regulation, this could be the perfect first step in your career.

What is the role?

This is a two-year graduate scheme where you will start your career as a Risk & Compliance Graduate Analyst. You will rotate across different teams gaining broad experience across business areas such as Enterprise risk, Compliance and Internal Controls.

You will be trusted to work on high impact projects whilst studying towards a fully funded Level 4 ICA Advanced Certificate in Governance, Risk and Compliance. By the end of your scheme, you will develop a holistic understanding of how we navigate uncertainty, protect our reputation and drive sustainable growth at Howden.

This graduate scheme offers a direct pathway into a permanent role. Please note, permanent offers are not guaranteed and are allocated on performance and business need.

What you’ll do?

  • Independently study towards a Level 4 ICA Advanced Certificate in Governance, Risk and Compliance alongside your work. For each exam period, you will be granted a series of study days to prepare.

  • Support the implementation and enhancement of risk and control frameworks across business units.

  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of risk assessments, control workshops, and governance reporting.

  • Produce high-quality management information and contribute to committee papers and stakeholder presentations.

  • Learn how financial services regulation applies to an insurance intermediary and provide guidance to brokers and underwriters on how to be compliant.

  • Engage with teams across the business to promote awareness of risk, compliance, and control responsibilities.

  • Participate in thematic reviews, regulatory data analysis, and the development of risk and compliance insights.

  • Contribute to the rollout and adoption of systems and tools that support risk and control processes.

  • Utilise your data analysis skills to review data and present actionable insights.

What are we looking for?

  • Critical thinkers who thrive on solving problems practically, not just in theory.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills and comfortable presenting to individuals at all levels.

  • Able to communicate complex topics to non-technical audiences that aids decision making.

  • Intellectually curious individuals who enjoy problem solving.

  • Team players who thrive on collaborating with others.

Application process

Our application process is designed to help you show your potential, not to test what you already know!

  • Online application form – no CV required: We believe you're more than just a document, so we won’t ask you to submit a CV. Please upload a blank document on the application form.

  • Online gamified assessment: These games will help us understand your natural strengths and how you approach different situations. There are no right or wrong answers. You can complete this stage on your phone or laptop, whichever suits you best!

  • Pre-recorded video interview: You will record your answers to a few questions using your phone or laptop, giving you the chance to tell us more about yourself in your own time in a relaxed setting.

  • Assessment centre: Our final stage is an in-person assessment day at our London office. You'll take part in some fun group activities and meet our team in a relaxed setting. This day is all about getting to know you better and for you to see what it's like to be part of Howden and experience our culture. We'll cover all your travel costs for this day!
