POSITION SPECIFICS

The Built Landscapes and Urban Ecosystems (BLUE) lab, https://sites.psu.edu/bluelab/, in the Department of Plant Science at Penn State is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Technologist, keen to implement and support on-going research activities. The BLUE Lab conducts both basic and applied research in urban greenspaces aimed at understanding their ecology and promoting sustainable urban environments. 

This position offers the opportunity to work in collaboration with the PI (Dr. Hayden Bock) and researchers of all levels to execute experimental priorities on high-impact projects designed to establish momentum in a quickly growing new lab.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to establishment and upkeep of multiple field research projects.

  • Assist with experimental sampling, performing laboratory analyses, and data management.

  • Support day-to-day operations (ordering, lab organization, and inventory maintenance).

  • Manage logistics of multiple concurrent research projects.

  • Follow University policies and safety protocols; foster a welcoming, professional environment.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

Applicants should demonstrate strong technical, analytical, and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Familiarity with some of the following topics are not necessary, but are highly desirable: 

  • Previous field work in biology, ecology, and/or agricultural settings.

  • Previous laboratory experience, especially in biology, ecology, and/or agricultural settings.

  • Coursework or work experience in urban greenspaces, urban development, and/or urban planning.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $34,800.00 - $50,500.00.
