Job Description

The Hogan Lab in the Department of Ecology and Conservation Biology at Texas A&M seeks a full-time tree census team leader, technician, and field manager.  This full-time, hourly-paid position is employed through AgriLife Research.  It is available starting in January 2026 and extending through July 2026, with the possibility of extension based on funding and work performance. The lab studies forest community ecology, including tree demography and growth, and responses to disturbance and climate change.

The main research site is the Cooks Branch Conservancy near Montgomery, TX; however, the individual will occasionally need to work on the Texas A&M campus.  Housing may be provided at Cooks Branch on a needs basis.

Responsibilities:

* Performing forest measurements and identification of trees

* Supervision management and transportation of a team of tree census volunteers

* Communicating with Dr. Hogan  and Cooks Branch Conservancy Staff

* Organizing and managing data collection and storage

* Assistance in planning and organizing group activities for tree census volunteers

* Collecting of herbarium specimens

Required Education and Experience:
-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Two years of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

* A BS degree or higher in biology, ecology, botany, forestry, or a related field

* Experience with plant identification and measurement

* Supervisory/ Leadership experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Good communication skills

Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* A strong interest in field-based forest ecology research.

* Experience with GIS and R
