RTX Corporation is an Aerospace and Defense company that provides advanced systems and services for commercial, military and government customers worldwide. It comprises three industry-leading businesses – Collins Aerospace Systems, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon. Its 185,000 employees enable the company to operate at the edge of known science as they imagine and deliver solutions that push the boundaries in quantum physics, electric propulsion, directed energy, hypersonics, avionics and cybersecurity. The company, formed in 2020 through the combination of Raytheon Company and the United Technologies Corporation aerospace businesses, is headquartered in Arlington, VA.

The following position is to join our RTX Corporate BBN team:

Who We Are

RTX BBN Technologies is one of RTX’s premier research and development centers. Our diverse research portfolio combines the best technologies to deliver innovative, custom solutions with real-world benefit.

At RTX BBN Technologies, we invent new science by applying radical cross-disciplinary techniques to prototype systems in order to prove concept viability. This is especially evident in our Physical Systems and Sciences group, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where scientists and engineers anticipate the future in both very large and very small-scale scientific systems that often need to survive challenging operational environments.

What You Will Do & Learn

We are seeking qualified and eager new or recent graduates to become an integral part of this work. You will join a project team designing, analyzing, and prototyping innovative multi-domain system architectures.

You will contribute to an environment focused on digital signal processing, firmware development, debugging and verifications in languages such as C, C++, and Python+. This includes working hands-on with hardware and experimental equipment to collect and analyze data sets, with occasional off-site testing, as needed. The role will also involve developing and implementing physics-based models in MATLAB/Simulink. Examples of the challenging problems this team has worked to resolve include:

  • Developing structural and acoustic models and related signal processing schemes

  • Developing control system architectures to affect performance of physical systems

  • Developing sophisticated detection, classification, localization, and tracking (DCLT) algorithms against state-of-the-art threats in high-noise environments

  • Developing prototype proof of concept systems to address our clients’ most challenging problems

  • Supporting implementation and evaluation of real time systems in realistic mission scenarios and conducting operational analysis

Qualifications You Must Have

  • A Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline (i.e. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field) and 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships)

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Classroom, project, or prior internship experience in design, simulation, analysis, and/or prototyping of electromechanical systems

  • Classroom, project, or prior internship experience programming in one or more modern languages and environments (i.e. C, C++, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, Bash, etc.)

  • Classroom, project, or prior internship experience working with circuits and electrical components; knowledge of how to safely solder components and use electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and analyzers

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Classroom, project, or prior internship experience modeling physical systems, analytically or numerically, and using test data to validate model accuracy

  • Classroom, project, or prior internship experience with laboratory equipment (sensors, actuators, data acquisition systems, and real-time platforms)

  • Classroom, project, or prior internship exposure to control theory, control systems design, digital signal processing, and/or state estimation in simulation or with physical systems
