Position Summary

The Evers lab is a small, tight-knit lab (5-7 members) that works on sterol modulation of membrane proteins, with a strong focus on neurosteroid modulation of ion channels. The lab uses a variety of methods, including: (1) photoaffinity labeling and proximity labeling coupled with protein mass spectrometry; (2) fluorescent methods to study ligand binding; and (3) structural biology using cryo-electron microscopy. All of these methods rely on high level expression and purification of proteins of interest.

Performs and oversees research projects or laboratory processes. Oversees other personnel and equipment.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs laboratory administrative functions such as purchasing, managing record-keeping systems for chemicals and safety, coordinating compliance activities and inspections, and maintaining organization of samples and reagents.
  • Performs cell culture of stable cell lines, transient expression of proteins in mammalian cells, expression of membrane proteins in bacterial and mammalian cells, and protein purification.
  • Supervises laboratory staff assigned, assuring appropriate study procedures, review of staff work, explaining policies and procedures and screening of new employees.
  • Develops procedure manuals and operational/technical guidelines for lab studies.
  • Participates in lab study processes, maintaining records and preparing reports as required.
  • Researches and recommends new methods and procedures to maintain current capabilities, quality and standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
  • Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

$55,200.00 - $100,000.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
