Research Associate in microwave processing for sustainable semiconductor fabrication
The Role
An exciting role has become available in the School of Engineering at Macquarie University. We are seeking a qualified Research Associate to join a team with an international reputation for producing high quality research in the area of advanced photovoltaics.
We are looking for a passionate and accomplished researcher with a strong track record in microwave processing technology to produce high quality semiconductor thin film devices.
The successful candidate will join an established project funded by the Australian Government, focusing on the study of the dynamics of microwave processing to grow high-quality, stable semiconductor crystals. The role also includes supervising junior researchers within the photovoltaics group at the School of Engineering.
Some of your key responsibilities include:
Design and implement an integrated microwave processing and probing platform for crystal growth and in-situ characterisation of solution-processed semiconductors.
Conduct experimental studies on microwave-field-influenced crystal growth.
Develop and validate theoretical models to explain crystallisation dynamics and absorption mechanisms.
Fabricate and test high-efficiency perovskite solar cells.
Contribute to managing and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Supervision of PhD, Masters and Undergraduate research thesis students.
Generate and disseminate high-impact research outputs and contribute to collaborative activities, including international partnerships, conferences, and potential IP development.

Essential
A PhD in photovoltaics or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated track record in microwave systems and annealing processes
Demonstrated track record of research with international standing
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Commitment to teamwork and collaborative work, both domestically and internationally
Commitment and ability to provide support to graduate and research students
Desirable
Experience in tool design and system implementation Ability to implement required health and safety policies and procedures
