The Opportunity

Our USGO Central Region Operations team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in West Virginia to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Glenville and the surrounding area.


We are seeking a skilled Repairman who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline systems and reciprocating engine compressors.  

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting and decision-making skills. 


This position is represented by United Steelworkers Local 628 and the filling of the position is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective bargaining agreement.

What you’ll do

  • Perform maintenance, overhaul and repair of compressor station equipment by performing such duties as: dismantling compressor station equipment, cleaning parts, inspecting vital parts for wear, repairing and/or replacing worn engine parts, fitting, realigning and assembling equipment, starting up, checking and adjusting equipment for proper operation (setting ignition, timing, injection valve clearance, etc.)

  • Compile or furnish information for miscellaneous reports and forms

  • Perform quality tests on lubricating oil, cooling fluids and glycol

  • Inspect for gas leaks

  • Maintain safety equipment

  • Perform valve inspections and repairs, recording results

  • Perform valve operation and maintenance

  • Overhaul engines using micrometers, dial indicators and miscellaneous hand tools

  • Test safety devices and repair if necessary

  • Repair water, oil and gas leaks

  • Inspect fire extinguishers and replace damaged or deteriorated parts

  • Assist contractors and vendors while on-site

  • Assist in the compilation of shipping manifests

  • Complete various reports that include maintenance reports, and monthly/annual reports

  • Order/reorder necessary parts and supplies

  • Test and inspect lubricating systems

  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP

  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting large-bore reciprocating engines

  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines, centrifugal gas compressors and standby generators

  • Industrial experience in a plant environment

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record

  • Successfully qualify for specific job tasks per DOT and Company operator qualification requirements

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing

  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes

  • Be exposed to extreme weather conditions

  • Train and develop skills to fill-in for the Maintenance Mechanic when needed

  • Pass respiratory fit test and use equipment such as SCBA and other respirators

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
