Reliability Technician - The Toro Company

Who Are We?  

Toro’s Irrigation and Lighting business is located in Riverside, CA. The Toro Company’s irrigation business is comprised of two distinct brands, Toro® and Irritrol®. Both brands offer a full line of solid, dependable, irrigation products including controllers, sensors, valves, spray heads and rotors to help customers care for golf courses, sports fields, public green spaces, commercial and residential properties. Unique Lighting Systems is a leading brand of professional grade lighting fixtures, low voltage transformers, LED lamps and the patented HUB system for installation. Serving both residential and commercial markets, Unique Lighting Systems offers a full line of outdoor lighting products.  

 

The Reliability Technician conducts and records test results on various irrigation products and/or components to determine the failure mode. Analyze products to determine the cause of failure and facilitate the corrective action process. Collect and organize data for reporting and to establish failure trends. 

 

1st Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm, with overtime as needed. 

 

Reliability Technician I Starting Wage: $23.05 per hour 

Reliability Technician II Starting Wage: $29.59 per hour 

 

What Will You Do? 

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:  

  • Confers with Failure Analysis personnel to assign project priorities, review test plans, procedures, and objectives.  

  • Disassemble the product to investigate and analyze its components. Examine the unit or components for defects related to manufacturing, design, installation, and/or service.  

  • Sets up, observes, and conducts tests in both field and laboratory conditions on irrigation products, subassemblies, components, and/or materials under operational conditions to investigate design, components, materials, etc., for performance and to obtain data to identify the root cause of failure and corrective action.   

  • Records test procedures, collects test data, records results into the database, and prepares written reports.  

  • Confers with Failure Analysis personnel on data analysis and interpretation to determine failure causes and make recommendations for corrective actions.  

  • Performs other required duties as needed in addition to the essential functions described above.  

     

What Do You Need? 

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:  

  • Education and Experience: Apprenticeship or formal training in mechanics, mechanical design, and plastics knowledge is desired. A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. 

    • Reliability Technician I: 0 to 3 years of related experience and/or hands-on technical work and writing experience.  

    • Reliability Technician II: 3 to 5 years of related experience and/or hands-on technical work and writing experience.  

  • Training:  Knowledge of Total Quality Management is helpful.  To investigate and analyze product failures, it is essential to disassemble and manipulate the product in an organized manner to avoid disturbing evidence of failure causes.  Familiar with the usage of precision measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, comparators, gauges, load and tensile testers).  Ability to read, understand, and use blueprints, schematics, and test procedures.  Ability to use a computer and various software applications, including spreadsheet software. Data collection, technical writing, and reporting skills. 

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.  Ability to use a calculator to perform routine math.  

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

  • Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.  Ability to write routine reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal customers.  

 

Other Job-Related Components:  

  • Job Dimensions: Works under minimal supervision. The Reliability Tech provides subject matter expertise to other groups to resolve problems and determine corrective action. You would interface with various Toro departments as necessary.
