Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Short Stay (SSU) Observation Unit! This is a full time, night shift position in Suffolk, VA. About the Unit
The Observation/Short Stay Unit provides care for patients admitted for observation, post-procedural monitoring, and short-term treatment. Nurses in this unit manage a diverse patient population with a variety of medical and surgical needs. The team works closely with physicians, case managers, and ancillary departments to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care transitions. This unit offers an excellent opportunity to refine critical thinking and time management skills in a collaborative, patient-centered setting. Registered nurses can expect between 6 and 8 discharges per shift with the assistance of our staff of Unit Coordinators and case managers to ensure smooth transitions.
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas
