The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Recreation Therapist is a member of the interprofessional health care team responsible for providing therapeutic recreation services in the area of functional intervention, leisure education and recreation participation to meet client’s psycho-social needs. The Recreation Therapist assesses recreation and leisure needs of clients and residents, develops treatment plans and provides or coordinates therapeutic programs/activities to meet those needs. The Recreation Therapist assists with the orientation, supervision and evaluation of support staff, students and volunteers as requested. In keeping with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) Standards of Practice, Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care and Carewest’s policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. The demonstration of leadership is critical for success in this position. Responsible for other related duties as required.
Program summary:
Day Hospital – a community-based program for seniors who are experiencing a mix of physical, mental, emotional and social concerns. The emphasis is on assessment and treatment within a short-term, goal-based program. The program consists of education, support, and a variety of therapies.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Graduation from a recognized Bachelors Degree program in Recreation Therapy, Leisure Studies, Recreation Administration or a related field.
- Current and active registration in the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) is required.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation is an asset.
- Current and active Basic Life Support Provider CPR is required.
- 3 years recreation therapy experience is preferred;
- Experience using a broad range of Recreation Therapy interventions with a variety of client populations is an asse
