Position Summary:
The primary function of the Recovery Services (RS) Senior Clinician position is to provide a combination of quality direct clinical care services to our patients served and supervision of our team of clinical staff. The RS Senior Clinician will also provide clinical leadership and oversight to ensure regulatory compliance, support clinical quality improvement, and champion Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS)-aligned practices across both Recovery Services sites. The senior clinician is integrated directly into the clinical environment and provide direct care and coordination of services in tandem with his/her/their colleagues within the recovery services departments.
- Exhibit expertise in evidence-based practices in addiction treatment.
- This may include but not be limited to group counseling, resource management, psychotherapy, harm reduction education, supervision of social work interns, or case presentations
- Performs advanced, high quality, thorough psychosocial diagnostic evaluations that contain data in support of the diagnosis, findings, evidence-based treatment recommendations and plans.
- Documents every visit and collaboration in accordance with departmental standards and demonstrates competence in presenting completed assessments for clinical disposition in a clear and organized manner.
- Provides consultation to and coordinates patient care with multidisciplinary staff.
- Participate in clinical case reviews, warm handoffs, and interdisciplinary care coordination.
- Provides assessment and treatment for a range of conditions to individuals, couples, families and groups, acquiring additional training and supervision for couples and families and group treatment, as indicated.
- Support patients with co-occurring disorders using evidence-based, culturally responsive, and harm reduction approaches
- Screens for domestic violence, mental illness, substance use and risk behaviors with every patient, applying protocols for intervention with positive screenings.
- Demonstrates increased capacity to diagnose and effectively treat a range of mental health conditions and polysubstance use.
- Demonstrates excellent clinical judgment in assessing changes in risk, enlisting assistance or support from administration, medical team etc., as appropriate
Senior Clinician Responsibilities (In accordance with 105 CMR 164.027)
- Under the supervision of the CAD, provide clinical oversight and supervision for all licensed and unlicensed behavioral health staff in Recovery Services including ensuring staff maintain training, and participate in performance evaluations
- Serve as the designated Senior Clinician for the program’s BSAS licensure, ensuring clinical components of care meet regulatory requirements and standards of care.
- Along with program management, participate in internal audits and lead preparation for the behavioral health component of inspections, BSAS site visits and monitoring activities.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure service delivery adheres to all regulatory requirements and health centers standards and practice of care
- Ensure that clinical documentation meets BSAS standards and that services are delivered in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Support leadership team as needed in management duties including but not limited to: supervising, hiring, scheduling, and monitoring the referral pool, and discharge workflow
- Provide support and consultation to other team members on high-risk clinical cases, including safety planning and mandated reporting.
- Review and approve treatment plans ensuring they meet regulatory and clinical standards.

Program Leadership and Clinical Oversight
- Act as a clinical leader, under Director support, assist in developing workflows, documentation tools, and staff training initiatives related to behavioral health within Recovery Services.
- Support new clinical initiatives and orientation.
- Serve as a champion for trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and racial equity within the health center.
- Collaborate closely with nursing, medical, and recovery support staff to improve access and quality of behavioral health care within the department
- Participate in RFR processes to maintain current programing and development new programming, as appropriate
