Student Health Services
Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Student Health Services, the Receptionist provides support to the daily operations of Student Health Services (SHS), including the health promotion efforts and the Student Health Insurance.
Job Description:
Greets and signs patients into SHS and schedules follow-up appointments.
Responds to incoming calls and inquiries to SHS.
Checks, verifies, and edits data in Medicat to ensure accurate input; and makes individual modifications, and/or updates to data, as appropriate.
Inputs correct patient data when creating a new Medical record.
Inputs and retrieves alphabetical and numerical data in the prescribed format using knowledge of the Medicat program.
Receives and routes medical information to and from SHS staff members.
Assists with coordinating the provisions of the student health insurance program.
Educates and assists students and families navigating the student health insurance requirements and enrollment, and waiver process.
Completes other tasks or assignments needed to support SHS and Gallaudet’s mission.
Works with department representatives as necessary to facilitate and expedite the efficient flow of information to resolve routine administrative problems.
Interacts with SHS internal staff members to resolve problems and address external inquiries.
Communicates information from SHS to campus members on an individual and mass scale platform.
Provides SHS orientation to new students.
Assists student workers in the office as needed.
Assists with the web design for the SHS website.
Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
Performs related and other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
A minimum of one year of experience with office administration, program coordination, or a related field.
Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to ensure the utmost discretion and confidentiality in all matters.
Strong ability to handle complex and routine tasks.
Strong knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the release of confidential information.
Strong skills with computer software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel), file maintenance, and database management.
Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents, and groups.
Additional Position Details:
This is an one-year extended temporary staff position with certain benefits including health insurance, paid vacation and sick time, and paid holidays.
The extended temporary appointment may be renewed for another year or has an opportunity to convert to regular status with full benefits.
