The Real World Data Science team at AstraZeneca is accountable for delivering global strategic observational research studies using real-world data (RWD) (e.g. EMR and claims data) to build confidence in AstraZeneca therapies.
Currently the team is conducting several analyses for an observational real-world evidence (RWE) study focused on amyloidosis. The student will be responsible for executing a component of the study related to sub-population analysis (e.g. difference by age and sex). The analysis will be done on a US-based insurance claims dataset. The analysis will lead to an internal report and the opportunity to explore a poster abstract or manuscript submission.
The student will work closely with the data scientist and the epidemiologist to:
Identify and refine indicators and definitions for subpopulation analyses relevant to equity.
Review, modify, and update the study cohort, including inclusion and exclusion criteria tailored for the selected subpopulations.
Examine, revise, and code algorithms for diagnoses, laboratory measurements, procedures, and medication use leveraging a large US-based insurance claims database.
Apply and interpret appropriate statistical methods designed to compare outcomes or characteristics between groups.
Key learning outcomes include developing expertise in cohort selection, database curation, equity analysis, and observational study methods. The student will gain hands-on experience with real-world claims data, contribute to a structured internal report, and have the opportunity to lead or co-author a poster abstract or manuscript submission based on project findings.
